I'm perusing the local FS ads on line and discover a gent selling a ladies two-tone fluted date-just. It is on a bracelet. He is asking $1200 for it! I'm thinking this is a smoking deal and I'm walking it thru the process. The watch was a gift, and there is no box nor papers. I don't think the gent knows the value of the watch. I have a local watch maker that can open the case and inspect it to see if it is legit, and I'm going to call RSC to see if the watch is hot. Worst case scenario, I drive to Nashville to get someone to look at it. For the cost of gas this would be a cheap investment. I'll send it off for a service/cleaning if it actually happens.

What do you all think? No I can't go thru an AD (as a teacher I don't make that kind of money) If this pans out I would like to make this a 20th wedding anniversary gift.

Do you like the watch? Not that unusual a watch. My advice is not to get a watch just because it is a Rolex and at a good price. You have to like it intrinsically. If for your wife, I suggest being careful, and consider getting a new one from AD. I find one of the most fabulously accepted and appreciated women's ROllies is either the platinum YM, or the TT of same.

+1 I'm alittle weary of buying a luxury watch without any certification papers. As the saying goes, "If it's too good to be true, then it probably is."

1200 bucks in an incredible price for a TT ladies DJ. Easily half price for even a very old one......if authentic.. recent models go for 4-6 K..

Can't tell from your photo. The bracelet looks very stretched... and the colors are off.. Could be lighting..

Here is Mrs. Tools 15 year old DJ that I just sent in for service..

She wears it 24/7....

My wife has had a watch like this styling before. Did you guys not read my post? I said I can't afford a brand spanking new watch, period. Some of us have to make due the best we can. Sorry that is a sore spot (the way money is thrown around sometimes).

ETA: FWIW, one of my fellow teachers (who has a father that is a president of a bank) received a Rolex just like this one as a graduation present. It is a quite attractive watch.

It may be a great buy but, maybe not and if you have to have it serviced it may cost hundreds I think Rolex charges $500 for repair. If a rolex is not her hearts desire I'd consider a new watch of another brand as well.

I would not bu it because I do not like gold hands and a good face. I also passed up a Daytona because I did not like the black face. The watch may be a great deal but if you are not attracted to it, them it is someone else's great deal. Let them find it and you find yours. But if this watch does it for you, then you found it!

I was looking at getting the spouse a vintage piece, but I kept coming back to offering the wife something "used". If she was into watches, it would be different, but she uses a watch to tell time.

My spouse does not like gold or two tones, but you know your other half best.

You can't give her a bracelet with that much stretch, so you'll either need to replace with a strap $, replace the bracelet $$$$, or have it repaired (shipping to the shop in either Hong Kong or Singapore (can't recall which at the moment) $$$ since the RSC will suggest replacement with exchange $$$.

Do the lady datejusts have sapphire or plastic crystals?

There is a guy in the far east that will fix a bracelet. I think a croc strap would look good until I get the bracelet tightened back up. I have time before the anniversary to get this up to par. We have a local watch guy (nashville) that comes highly recommended. He can do the service for half the price that RSC charges. The wife is currently wearing a two tone diver, and years before she had a two tone ladies pulsar that is about this size. I'm pretty sure she will like it based on her other watches.

I think the color on the gold is due to the scanner. I'm still skeptical until I can handle it. I'm not sold on this watch yet. I picked up my SD at a very good price and did so by paying attention and ensuring the pedigree of the watch. I want to know how old the watch is.

Is she really into watches or rolex? If not you could get a very nice new tag, maybe omega or other watch that if she didn't like she could exchange. If you get this she is stuck, like it or not.

+1 does she really want a rolex? or do you really want her to be wearing a rolex? Your wife could be wearing a great grand spanking new watch of the brands watchlady just described. Plus they would have their warranty. If something goes wrong with the Rolex, your going to be out alot more than the $1,200 purchasing price. But you get her a new Tag or Omega for that price at least you will get the maintenance free of charge from the AD god forbid anything goes wrong with it.

I too think that the bracelet stretch is quite extreme, but you can get that refirbished in Hong Kong. But that would add maybe another $300 or so to the cost + the hassle. You need to do your homework on this one, it might also need a service and before you know it, the great deal isn't such a great deal. Anyway, good luck, I'm not saying drop it but just take all things into account. As a present for your wife it would be nice to have a Rolex Guarantee Certificate, but not essential.
