MadMen Fans?
Been a die-hard fan of this series since the first episode.... Anyone else? I was wondering what everyone else thought of the two hour season-six premiere and predictions for the new year.
Oh, and anyone else think Don Draper is a pig? I mean, I wish I were him, suave, debonaire, rich, handsome.... But what a PIG!!!! His latest affair is with the Doctor in his building's wife! Yeah, I'm jealous.... |

Yeah I'm a fan. I have to admit I was pretty disappointed in the season six opener
I know it was two hours but the show was a series of vignettes with a much different tempo And meter All the tight writing and character interplay seems to be missing Long gone are the days when dialogue centered around marketing ideas It's like the writers ran dry. The biggest thing we have are all the visual cues that we are now in the late 60s and a major corner was turned. But compared to the highly stylized details of the earlier shows it just seems silly Not everyone transformed their personal style over the same month I give the opener a thumbs down

Interesting analgy Ed, ... And I agree with you on some points. This was a bunch of individual stories about the characters, I noticed that too. I understand what you are saying about the clues and the dialogue... IMHO, I think that was intentional. I think (hope) that the writers are setting up for season six, and this episode was just an "introduction" to prepare us (the audience). Of course I could be wrong... I guess it remains to be seen! |

Everyone is pretty much the inverse of the character they started's-major and minor Alike
Don has lost all his swagger is just a mess Peggy went from shy dove to being on top of the world Roger, who I went to high school with, went from King of the hill to an emotional wreck Joan went from office sex bomb to partner Even the minor characters in the art department have had inverted personality changes I'm sure it's all part of the plan

Watch the spoilers!
-- I thought the opening was fine. I mean, it's not like we don't know how miserable a fair number of adults were in that era as their whole world changed, so at some point that has to be depicted, in all its aspects. |

I thought the opening was boring except for Roger. I love Roger's character but other than that I felt the 2 hour opening was flat and didn't live up to previous seasons.

I love Mad Men right from the first ep but I have been spoiled watching it on the BBC, 50 mins with no adverts, HD and no 'DOG'

I used to watch it when it first came out but got lost with it after a while because of not being able to watch all the time because of my work schedule. Now that I'm able to I'm not so sure it will be very good from what I'm hearing here.

A very dark season starter. I was dumbfounded by Betty's comments to her husband about a young houseguest. I'm hoping that the writers return to the formula that made the show great, as it seems that the Madison Avenue angle has been forgotten in favor of focusing on the characters' personal issues.

Was a fan. The two hour debut was terrible IMHO. The writing was lame. The acting was not much better. Roger in therapy? I could see him talking to a bar tender....seemed like lazy plot development. Seems pointless. Like a soap opera now.

Like others, I'm leaving Mad Men behind. Loved the show in the but it's too much of the same thing now. Didn't care for the end scene with Don in bed with his friend's wife. Can't root for him any longer after seeing that.

I'm not a huge fan of the show, but it IS nice to see a show which doesn't revolve around smell phones and texting. The phones have wires and their lime green color is perfect. Gotta love the CRT televisions too.

Did anyone observed the make of the watch Draper was trying to make run again after coming in from the ocean in Hawaii with his wife on the beach?I think it was a gold Oyster from the back,on a leather band.
