Am I the only really liking the 512?
Good overview here http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/panerai...re-waiting-for or http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/...mir-1940-42mm/
42mm cushion case and hand-wound P.999/1 caliber with 60 hours power reserve, & ‘Swan neck’ regulator. Price short of $8,000. OK, it might not appeal to the the die-hard Paneristi that want to wear something giant, but personally I prefer not wearing anything over 45mm, regardless how much I like the look/history/brand, and even if I'm tall enough and have the wrists for it. This seems like a happy medium. Something you can dress up and down, wear with a suit/jacket as well as cargo short, still have that je-ne-sais-quoi Panerai. or ? |

Make it 45mm without the seconds complication and a sapphire...then I'd be all over it!

This is one of my favorite models. The 42mm case is perfect for me. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could swing the cost.

It's a very nice PAM design, with turned-down lugs but omitting the CG like many of the first 6152/1 series. More exciting for me is the actual movement which I find to be one of the nicest-looking in-house mvmts
Alas, 42mm is a bit small for Panerai *and* std to large wrists. If you have a smaller wrist (<6.5") then the 42mm PAM will look just as big as a 44mm on a std wrist or 47mm on larger wrists.

I like it but 42mm is too small for my taste.

I'm interested in this one too. I really like the smaller size and the lack of date

It's a really solid addition to the line up. I just wish it had white/green lume instead of the fauxtina.

I think this model is very, very nice! I like smaller watches and would prefer to see it with a 36mm or 38mm case (I could go up to 40mm but I just cannot wear big watches, they don't look nice on me). Now I understand that this isn't Panerai's path and must admit that this watch is actually so beautiful that if I was considering a model from this brand I'd go for it and try to get used to the 42mm case!

seeing from your other threads all the strap action you've been involved in, carl, it's only natural that some day you pick up a panerai. the 512 is a beauty for sure (even with the fake-tina). note that it has a new 1940s case inspired by a case design from, well, the 1940s (). this case design has the lugs attached to the case instead of the usual wire loops. both are nice, but, with your preference for smaller watches, you might actually prefer the 42mm wire loop radiomirs. for example, the 337 & 338: the 42mm wire loop radiomirs haven't been a startling success, though, for OP, though i happen to really like them. translation: second-hand prices are reasonable and will be more reasonable as the 42mm 1940s rads come out. |

To be honest, I was a bit unsure whether or not I'd
like it due to the size, but when I strapped it on, it was amazing. The watch is perfectly balanced and the small size does not actually show that much. I encourage you guys to go and try it when it is going to be out in stores. You'll be surprised.. |

What's your wrist size and do you have "flat" (or curved) wrists?

42mm Radiomir, it is the sensible size if you prefer the stealth look and hide it under a cuff.
GOOD looking inhouse movement. cheers, richard |

Thank you kindly for your suggestion Cru! Indeed, now that you mention it I prefer the wire loop to the actual lugs on that case! :thumbs up:
As for the strap mania...what can I say, you influenced me (I even had that very thought when I purchased my load of bands...). I prefer the 338 with gold hands but both indeed look very good, if I ever decide to buy myself a Panerai that would most probably be the model I'd look for, thank you for your advice! P.S.: My apologies for the small hijack.

The lugs actually makes it look slightly larger than your average 42mm rads, it does look nice but I would have to see it in the metal to make any judgements. As of now 42mm rads are too small for my taste.

I do like it.
I tried one today. I do want to buy it but after recently buying two watches, I kind of feel guilty about buying one at sticker price. I wonder if this one will see heavy discounts in preowned/grey market? |

I like the look, but for me I'd go 514 for the extra size.

I likey! Now the 392 I am considering has a competition. I like the date and automatic movt and 3 day power reserve of the 392, and now also like the simplicity of the 512. Damn!
