Incoming Kalpagraph
For some time I have been looking for a Parmigiani Hemespheres GMT. I am still looking. Meanwhile this wonderful Kalpagraph came up and I couldn't resist it.
It arrived with me from Belgium this morning. The watch is considerably better than expected and definitely a keeper. A very large watch and quite a weight, being 18ct RG. The level of finish is outstanding. The dial is one of the best I have seen. Michel Parmigiani is one of the truly great watchmakers of our time. He spent his early years winning countless awards restoring some of the most famous complications in the history of the wristwatch. He went on to create his own brand of which this is a fine example. As well as this he also has the Vaucher movement manufacture, where the movement of this watch comes. The Vaucher factory makes movements and modules for many other high end watches. Famous examples include the movement in Richard Mille's RM 05. They also make the movements in the higher end Hermes watches. In return, Hermes make the straps for Parmigiani. Hermes have made incredibly good watch straps since the 1920s The movement in this watch is a 68 jewel modular chronograph. The level of detail finish is up there with the best I have seen. It functions very well and one is not, within the operation of those functions, aware that it is not a column wheel chronograph. Some people don't like modular chronographs. I am happier with the modular approach than I am with anything but the best column wheels. The watch in general feels great, looks great and works very well. It is nice to have a watch with such size and presence without being round. Some Q and D photos. The essential wrist shot
