Looking at my first vintage sub...
Hey everyone. I've been into watches for quite a while but only recently have I been able to start my collection. I've recently acquired an all original vintage speedmaster from the original owner and now have my sights set on a vintage sub.
I have been deciding between the 5512 and a 5513. What are the main differences and what should I really be watching out for? I know these are getting more and more expensive but do you guys think I still might be able to pick one up for around $4000? -Tom |

Visually, the 5513 and 5512 are very similar, but there are some differences (e.g. two line dial vs. four line dial). Also, the 5512 has a chronometer-rated movement, unlike the 5513. You won't get a great example of either for $4K, especially not of the 5512. Go up to $5.5K, and you'll start seeing some nice ones. If you only want the watch head, and don't care about boxes/papers, you'll save some bucks, of course. Good luck!

I would suggest looking at a different reference as you won't be able to obtain one at your price point. A really nice one of either will be much more. There are also 2 line 5512's by the way but yes most are 4 line. Best of luck and keep doing your homework! Also welcome to TRF! Cheers,
PS. Check the FS section and you will see a nice 16800 for your target price.
