Thoughts on possible new purchase
Greetings all. I was thinking of pulling the trigger on a new acquisition to add to my existing collection of a 16220 Datejust (engine turned bezel, silver baton dial, oyster bracelet), a 16600 Sea-Dweller 4000, a 116520 Daytona (white dial), a 116710LN GMT IIc and a 116660 Sea-Dweller DeepSea.
I have four (sort of five) things that I'm thinking about: the 116610LV green Submariner date; a 116234 Datejust with a white gold fluted bezel and silver baton dial on a Jubilee bracelet; a 116203 Datejust (two-tone, with domed bezel, silver baton dial on an oyster bracelet); or a 114200 Air-King or a 116000 Oyster Perpetual with a silver dial, either of which I would probably pop off the bracelet and wear on a black leather strap (ideally with a Rolex clasp, if I can get one). Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. |

Thanks for the replies. It was the Sub that I had mainly been thinking about, and I was offered a really good deal on one about a year ago, just after the last price rise. The AD will probably still do me something similar.
I'm certain that it will hold its value better than the others, but I would quite like something a little dressier or, alternatively, discrete (in the case of the Air-Kng or Oyster Perpetual). It has, however, struck me that the most obvious gap in my collection is for a Sub! The only other complication is that I may not be able to add to the collection after this one. I am struggling to get insurance as things stand! |

To get something a little dressier, I like the DJ options on Jubilee that you present. You might also want to consider the DJ on Jubilee with the white Roman dial, since you already have a DJ with silver batons.

I'm going against the grain here, the Air King would be my choice.

I'm with you. Air-King for me....Love no-date, don't like the bubble much, and really don't like green for watches, or the thought of wearing a watch named after a green monster in purple Daisy-Dukes.

I'd also consider an Explorer II (either) to enhance that collection. You're fine on divers IMO, an Exp would add a bit of variety, particularly a polar.

There seems to be quite a consensus here! I suppose they say a picture speaks a thousand words:

Anyway, I'd definitely have a look at those. Wrt the DJ II, I've seen them at very reasonable prices SS in the FS forum, I think DavidSW has a very nice blue-dialed example for sale right now in fact...anyway, good luck!

It's almost unanimous. Get the LV.
If I were buying my first Sub I'd probably go LN but given your collection, the LV would be a perfect fit. |
