Another Atlanta Rolex Robbery

Less than a year after a $50K Rolex was taken from the Mayor's Jewelry in Lenox Mall in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, a huge heist tonight.

$500K worth of Rolexes in a 5-6 man smash & grab...

Man these guys are getting bolder by the minute. So do these smash and grabbed Rolex find their way to the "pre-owned" market ?

The answer would be a double door security where you can't get in or out without a buzz , we have these in Vancouver and frankly I feel safe this way!
Hope they catch the bastards soon...

x2

While nothing is the perfect safeguard, I think that having double doors requiring people to be buzzed in is a relatively simple measure that could make it a lot harder for thieves.

Was just talking about this kind of stuff with my wife yesterday, saying how these stores all need an armed security officer on sight at al times.

Sorry, no sympathy here. I've been in there half a dozen times, never seen security or any preventions. if I was insurance company I'd tell them where to stick their claim.....

I'm surprised that shatter-proof glass, at a minimum, isn't the industry standard for insurers-- especially after there's already been an incident.

Great store with helpful sales staff with large variety of models. Lenox Mall, however, is not the best place for Mayors. They need to be in a stand alone building like Brown & Co. has done down on Peachtree. And yes, their security measures leave nch to be desired.

I don't understand why jewelers don't have display cases with an unbreakable plexiglass layer sandwiched between two pieces of tempered glass.

Also they should have a security guard located in a back room and double security doors. If there were a robbery, the guard could lock the outer door at the first sign of trouble. Once the robbers made their escape and got to the outer door and found it locked, the guard would lock the inner door, trapping the robbers between the two doors. Tear gas and 100 decibel alarms located between the two doors optional.

Easier said than done. However I do agree with the shatter proof glass. They should have had that after their previous incident

I don't know the best answer to deter such large scale attacks. There were half-dozen perps armed with sledges. The glass security film looks interesting, but then the crews would just "up their game" to do the crime - which could endanger the staff and customers.

Too much visible armed presence would simply push many customers to another nearby AD.

But they could prolly segregate the high-end watches into a boutique within the store's footprint - like a store with a store - and have a Sallyport (double door buzz-in) at its entrance.

Lucky robbers there was no ccw customer in the store during that time or they'd be shot.

They should have metal screens under the glasses just like the gun shelves at scheels.

It's been some time since been in ATL but isn't there a Mayors in Phipps, too. I guess that one is smaller with less inventory?!?
