Narrowed the Choices
GMT or 39mm Explorer II (Black). The Explorer II would be ever so cutsie since it would match my husband's. However, cute factor is not what is driving this decision :-). I looked at Daytonas, and though they are very beautiful, I'm afraid that my eyes are getting a bit tired in my old age. Tudor 36mm subs are still wonderful, but I'm concerned about finding one from a Trusted Dealer here since they're a bit scarce, and the ones that I've seen have a weird price point as compared to mini-subs and Rolex subs. To me it just doesn't make sense.
And so, what do you, my learned colleages, think re: GMT vs. 39mm Explorer?

The 39mm explorer is an explorer I or just explorer. Do you mean this one or the Explorer II(40mm) with red GMT hand.

I already know I can't wear a 42 since the lugs are longer than my wrist is wide.

But why. Is there a mechanical reason? Or more aethetics? Much appreciated.

Aethetics, love the splash of colour.
Anyway you won't go wrong with either, GMT or explorer, both great watches. Go see them in the flesh, might help you decide. Lisa had the white faced explorer, she should have some wrist shots to gage size on a lady. |

Black Exp II. Quietly confident, little twist, smooth and adventurous, great history.
But, of course, there is no substitute for trying them both on, first. Good luck with your choice, and, I am already looking forward to seeing your choice |

It's so true. I will definitely have to try to find someone who has both.

Mikki, I'm excited to hear about this new hunt! As others have said, it makes all the difference to try them on.
Personally, after owning both in the past, I'd probably lean towards the Explorer 2. Super comfy (though the 16710 is as well), and lightweight. I also like the more unassuming bezel. Let us know what you decide! |

If you like color, the GMTs bezel inserts give you options.
Root Beer, for example!
