Am I the only one a bit annoyed when...

pictures are posted using photo bucket or another third party file versus being embedded in a TRF thread? So much easier to me when they are embedded.

Especially when there is a multi pic post and they only open up one at a time. Drives me nuts when I see some cool pics I want to check out and it winds up taking forever.... Maybe I am the one technologically challenged.

Sorry to be a cranky pants - pet peeve of the day.

Count me in. Another thing that grinds my gears: websites that use sideshows that require you to click each photo individually. Just put them all on one page, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

I'd rather be able to control my pics through photo bucket

x2 I like to control my pics. Not a fan of having to embed each one into a thread.

Plus, guests and others not logged in can then see the pictures if they're linked on a third party site.

Third thread on this in a few weeks...To each his own and as for me will continue to use PB!! Also when done right when you click on it it doesn't take you to album--that was also covered in last threads on this exact topic.

Exactly!

And saves space on the servers here by hosting externally...

Exactly.

One thing though...Those that use hosts like PB need to know how to use them properly and then
there is no difference to viewer.

I use Photo Bucket as well and when done correctly all my pictures show up without having to open them individually.....

Someone needs to relax and chill.....

This really isn't hard. Use a photo from anywhere and precede it with [IMG] and attach [/IMG] to the end.
Why would anyone limit their photos to use TRF to host them instead of a free sharing site like photobucket where they can share them anywhere online and also in email.

+1

Right click the picture, select properties, copy the URL address, paste between [IMG] and [/IMG].

Pictures will pop up as if imbedded in the thread.

First of all, I don't want to tell people how they chose to share THEIR images on the internet. If you upload the images to TRF you a) increase server/bandwidth costs for the operators of this site, and b) the images are no longer under your control, e.g. you cannot take them down if you wanted for whatever reason.

Personally I prefer using PB and I plan to continue to share my images that way, and only that way. YMMV.

PB has seemed to make it more difficult for those that may not understand the tags well. I can't seem to find the old standard imbedded code they used to have and everything seem to link back to PB.

Still simple... Just isolate the link itself starting with http://www. and ending in the type of photo file (Watchphoto1.jpg or whatever), then wrap that full link in [IMG] [/IMG]

Still use PB but wish they would have kept the old format. Seems like they change something every couple months now.

+1. I don't know what they are/were trying to improve with the forced "upgrade". For about three months I had the option of staying with the old format, which of course I did, because at my age, I don't feel like figuring out new tricks.

Cannot see why you have any problem with pictures posted on a third party like imageshack or photobucket or any other free hosting site. Now storing pictures on forum sucks up quite a bit of forum data on server, so it make perfect sense to host pictures on a third party. The total monthly bandwidth download consumption just running the forum and keeping it as fast as possible is now is well over a 1500 gig of data monthly. And its going up fast each month as we continue to grow and data consumption now costs money .As a forum its runs very fast with no adverts etc and that's the way we hope to keep it so.

Much worse than that is when folks feel the need to quote all the pictures in their reply. So irritating.

What's most annoying is for those who embed images in post and suck up server space many times duplicate pics and suck up even more space.

Just have a quick look in WRUW thread. So I guess PB isn't so bad after all.

I personally like PB and just paste IMG code. Simple, effective and can get to all of my photos anywhere. Makes things simple for posting to TRF--IMHO.

Uploading to an outside host saves space on the server. One of the two pet peeves I have regarding pics are that when hosted outside they disappear from the post once they have been deleted from the host site.

The other is the incessant duplication of pics when quoting a prior post. Quit being so lazy and edit the quote to delete the pics! You don't have to re-post 10 pics from the same thread just to say "Nice watch."

I've posted pics both ways. If they are already on my computer I will tend to post them as an attachment. If they are on the internet I will use the insert picture function by copying the image location. I don't post a lot of pictures though.

This is getting quite annoying. Seems that most on the WRUW that are using embedded images continue to double post pics and not only eat up server space but twice as much. So sorry OP but quite the opposite!!! If you use PB correctly it is not only better but better for the forum!

I wonder if it is possible to tweak the server code to automatically strip out the [img] tags (thereby the images) when replying/quoting in the WRUW threads so people stop needlessly, exponentially repeating others' images, at least with embedded images.
