Just came back from AD. GMT and Sub feels small and light.

Hi All TRFers, I tried a Sub and GMT just now. I feel its on the small and light , less substantial side albeit my small wrist ( 6.5 ins).
Those with experience on Explorer 11, pls give input as the feel and size of the Exp 11.
( my daily wear is Breit Super Ocean GMT, moving upwards to Rolex).
Any suggestions from TRFers as what should I get for my first Rolex.

i'd like to see a wrist shot. for a relatively small wrist, i can't imagine how they can seem small. i think the 42mm Exp II would be hanging over both sides of your wrist.

granted the Breitling you mention is pretty big and they probably feel small in comparison. i think after a short time, they would no longer feel that way.

Well with watches weight does not pay any attention to quality Rolex watches are quality no matter the weight. So the Sub for me and GMT are fine weight and size wise,and myself 6Ft 3 inches and have 8.5 inch plus wrists.

DSSD. Get one and you won't look back

The Exp2 is a very nice option. More substantial wrist presence yet very comfortable.
Wearing bigger watches (Panerai, AP ROO, or Breitling in your case) will always make a Rolex feel small. Unless you go the DSSD route...

Have you tried the deepsea sea dweller? It's a hefty watch that might be up your alley. It's a tad pricer than the sub though.

I have the same size wrist my sub lv fits fine on my wrist I tried the exp 2 also and it also fits well. I also wear panerai which is a 44mm and the fit is awesome. Good luck

I think the EXP II is an awesome watch. I have one as well as a Sea Dweller. They both wear a little different than the other but both are comfortable and have nice presence on a wrist.

My thought is that the EXP II would give you a completely different look than your Brietling or a Sub. This way you can change things up a bit.

BTW. I also have a Brietling that I never wear anymore since I got my EXP II.

Everyone has their own opinion and make choices based on their likes and dislikes...but I do not see why "bigger is suppose to be better". I like the feel of Rolexes, regardless of size, and other fine quality time pieces over "Large Ones". Companies such as Rolex have been fine tuning and putting out high quality watches for decades.....

Too me I think these larger watches are a fad and eventually they will be "out of style" and then many will have watches too large.....of course many of them "are high quality" so they will be keepers(or flipped)and many will put them away for a decade or so till the next time the "Fad starts back up".....

i have similar size wrists and I think the 40mm Rolex pieces feel substantial and well built. If you want more heft then consider the sea-dweller or deepsea. Then there is the WG sub which will have good heft to it.

Size wise feel -

Breitling SOSF - 44mm
DSSD - 43/4mm
EXP2 - 42/3mm
SubC - 42mm
Sub and Daytona - 40mm

Sub and Daytona are too small for me as I have a Breitling SOSF and I had a DSSD which wears very similar but was too top heavy and unbalanced for me, so I got a Subc which tho smaller is better balanced and lives happily with my Breitling. AP Diver also wears like a 44mm so would be perfect for you.

I have owned many heavy watches, but their quality is only a fraction of that of the much lighter Rolex.

We have the same wrist size. Compared to the Sub and GMT2, the Explorer 2 is noticeably larger. I think Rolex joined the big watch bandwagon without going overboard, and it fits my wrist very well. I think the larger dial also makes the dial look cleaner, since the larger surface area spaces the dial features further apart. Lastly, you can't go wrong with either dial color, but the white face is pristine and very easy to read. I've included some wrist shots that I hope can be useful, including a shot of a 44mm Panerai. Those watches look HUGE on your wrist (awesome choices though) like others have said to the OP, just buy and wear what you like, good luck!

I have the same wrist and 40mm feels fine. I wear up to 44mm but 40mm also feels fine.

If your wrist is truely 6.5, I don't see how the Sub and GMT can be small on your wrist.

A 40mm watch is a big watch for a 6.5" wrist, and any impression that you may have contrary to that is merely a state of mind. I wear a sub on my 8"+ wrist and it looks and feels fine.

I haven't read through this thread at all, but I have the Explorer II and SubC.
Even though the Explorer is larger in diameter, it wears more comfortable and less obtrusive (not that the SubC is heavy or obtrusive) than the SubC. It's lighter and flatter, which makes a big difference.
