Remarks made by an AD

So my fiancee and I were at a AD on Long Island the other day, We are looking for a datejust 31mm with fluted bezel, mop with diamond marker dial. He had one in stock with a oyster band, but my fiancee really wants a jubilee band. When we told him this he stated that people in the rolex community refer to the jubilee as the "seiko" band but told us he would order us whichever style band we wanted. So was this a ploy by him to just try and sell us what he had in stock?

Sadly, that's just a sales gimmick to get you to buy what's in stock.

I personally would go to another AD, just for spite.

Seiko band, indeed.

Rolex invented the Jubilee bracelet.

I agree with Grady, just a cheap ploy, and if I'm not mistaken Rolex pioneered the Jubilee bracelet many years before Seiko copied it.

Exactly...so transparent...he wants your money not to serve you with what you want...tell him to go and jump.

"He" as in the sale's representative?
In which case he will say whatever he wants to sell you a product.
I can see why he would say something like that. I have seen the Seiko DJ "homages".

Yes the sale's rep. I figured I would get this response from everyone here, My fiancee and I felt the same way, so we just smiled and walked out lol.

i would absolutely not buy from that guy/store.

he just showed you that he is not trustworthy. when you are spending that type of money, you need to be able to trust your vendor.

Yep... Always buy the seller! The seller in your scenario is either showing lack of knowledge (bad) or lack of honesty (also bad).

What a crock. I think the Jubilee is the best looking band for that watch. I'd take my business elsewhere - like the TRF FS section! Better prices, and more knowledgeable sales people BY FAR.

That's a pretty lousy attempt to get your to buy what they had in store. I love the jubilee and would always prefer it over an oyster on the DJ.

There is about as much guarantee of a clerk with integrity at a Rolex dealer as you might find at a car lot.

I would call TRF a solid Rolex Community. I have never seen anyone refer to the Jubilee as a "Seiko band".
I bet he was arrogant too!

Rolex invented the jubilee. I would actually say that the jubilee clad date just I the most commonly copied watch design out there.

He is, essentially, putting down one of Rolex's most popular products.
