Straps for 47mm PAMs
So I'm in the market for 26mm straps and could use some suggestions. I haven't been in the strap market for a while, having mostly used OEM straps for 44mm models. What would you guys suggest? 26x26, 26x24, 26x22? Short or long tail? Burnished v rough edges? Sewn-in buckle v screw in? (Pics would be appreciated)

I ordered a couple of Wotancraft 26x26 Vintage recently. Still waiting for delivery. I'll post em up once I get them.
Nishant has some nice ones for his 47s. I'd like to see some pics and suggestions as well. |

I go 26/24 or 26/26 with sewn in. I have found there to be disparity between makers and that disparity extends to the buckles they use. I have become a stickler for quality in the buckles and don't really like the jumbo buckles.
The straps that I have found to be of better quality in all respects are OEM, Simona and Vintager. I have purchased some cheaper straps and basically got what I paid for. I won't name names. Medium length tail. Finished edges. |

For you and your wrist size, I recommend a thick, medium length ammo of HIGH quality.
The thicker strap will make the watch wear smaller on a luminor. I have two Piotr straps that I bought just incase I get a 372. I'll snap some pics tonight for you.

Good Piotr's are hard to come by. You have to snatch them up when they are there. His wait times are looooooooooooooooooong and his prices keep going up.

I was fond of Micah Mauser when I had a 47mm. I like 75/140 length for my 6.5 wrist to get some nice tail action. The sewn in buckle adds a nice little touch that I enjoyed.

I have something in the works....
You were on the post were I hinted at what I wanted..... Pics. Super thick super quality. I could wear these straps everyday and they would never wear out. The buckles are also made by Piotr. Last round dot is a melted bullet from a WWII issued round. My advice is don't cheap out on ammo straps. I've owned them all and I'm telling you, the top two are worth the price IMHO.

I have been through a lot many straps over the past couple of years ... Some have disappointed and some have been thoroughly off the charts in quality and craftsmanship ... I will add some pictures in a while but I would like to point you to my favorite strap makers .. 1) Zeugma : yet to find one of his straps that disappoint .. Very reasonably priced for the quality it offers. 2) Simona : Ideal blend of quality and finesse while the prices real ... Have the gray gator and the T Rex and will add 2 or 3 more ... 3) Wotancraft : Have the reinforcement ammo and a rarer Black Ammo is on its way ... Truly amazing quality ! 4) I will add Ted Su, Rob Montana, Altamarea, Gunny and GSD as other strap makers with great CS and quality ... I actually had 4 or 5 straps from Greg this year. RB Ammo .. [ i am gonna get one more ] Gunny Verdi [ One of his best straps ] GSD Durango Gold [Love it] GSD MAT Ammo 5) If u are looking for sth different, try a Delaurian Strap : but he only makes a custom strap if he likes u enough :) I am ready for all the backlash but the two straps that have disappointed me a little for price of entry and the reverence are : Micah and Dirk ! ( I guess I got unlucky ) |

There are some questions that you may need to answer.
1. Is the watch a Luminor or Radiomir? The Radiomir will need a strap that is a bit "bulkier" due to the lugs...whereas the Luminor is confined to 26mm exactly. 2. Are you going to wear it for work (suit), casual or Business casual? A strap for wear with a suit needs to have a different look over one that is worn with jeans for pay time. 3. A for the "tail" on a strap......that requires some additional thought.....see #2 then add in that the longer the tail the more casual the strap becomes. Then, for fit, where will the first hole be if you get a long tail. Usually the first hole is at 30mm...but if you want a long tail and get a 160mm length on the side with the holes you may want the first hole at 45mm..or 40mm or 50mm...well, you get the point. 4. What colors do you prefer? 5. Are you going to use your existing Panerai Buckle or get a sewn in buckle? 6. If you use the Panerai buckle is it a deployant or tang buckle....a deployant buckle must have a deployant strap......while a deployant strap or a tang strap will fit on a tang buckle. 7. If you get a sewn in buckle....do you want it "Natural" steel like Panerai used from 1938 to 1997? Or, do you want a shiny buckle? I could go on but as you can see it is more than just buying a strap and spending money. You need to get the strap that will improve the look of your watch and not detract from it. Elliot |
