MSRP GMT-C or 10% off blue sub

I'm thinking about purchasing my next Rolex before the price increase and I've narrowed it down to two.

I can get the new GMT with ceramic bezel for $5950 or the blue two tone submariner for 10% off, so it will be $7042.50.

GMT-C
Pros: New movement, new bracelet, maxi dial
Cons: Black bezel, doesn't stand out, MSRP

Blue Sub
Pros: Blue dial, it stands out, discount
Cons: Two tone, regular dial, traditional bracelet

They didn't have a new GMT in so I couldn't do a side-by-side comparison. And since I'm really a one watch person, I'll be selling my LV so the idea of having 2 subs isn't an issue.

The person I spoke to is saying that it most likely will be a 10-15% increase which will include the new GMT since the Euro is so strong and the US dollar is so weak. And this guy actually travels to the shows and knows his Rolex, so he's not just another sales person.

Anyways, which one would you recommend?

My personal preference would be for the new GMT II. I think it's a fantastic looking watch, and I especially like the bracelet/clasp.

On the other hand, the Blue TT Sub is the most photogenic of them all.

Edit: I just re-read your post. I thought you were talking about the new GMT II C.

So scratch most of what I said above.

I recommend the Sub.

As always, these choices come down to which watch smiles at you the most. Reading between the lines, it sounds like you're leaning towards the Sub, and there's certainly nothing wrong and a whole lot right about that.

I think you need to see the GMT IIc in person before deciding, since it is not for everyone. The supercase I can live without. The TT Sub is a classic, but I vote for keeping your LV.

Tough call. Both great pieces, but very different from one another. One is all SS, and the other is TT...so its kinda hard to compare the two as equals. It's more about which one you prefer....a TT or an SS?

Being an owner of both.. I can tell you that the more I wear the GMT II c the less I take it off. I would recommend it over most other models (I have subs, daytonas, DJs, milgauss and GMT IIs)

I have both too. Agree with the above. I wear the GMT II C constantly since I got it.

However I love to look at my TT Blue Sub. Its gorgeous!!

Lots are saying that the GMT-C and the Milgauss are "current" pricing and shouldn't increase. No guarantees, but that's what many say.

In regards to those discounts, you're need to find another AD or try and haggle more. Many have gotten the GMT-C for a decent discount and the TT for a lot better a percentage off than 10%.

Personally, I'd keep the LV.

I've been to several ADs in the Dallas area and it has all been the same.

No discount on the GMT-C since it's new and they are selling them immediately. And the blue sub has been no discount to 10% off. It may be the fact that I don't really have a relationship with any of the ADs.

If anyone knows of an AD in Dallas that can give me a discount on the GMT-C or greater than 10% on the blue sub and also willing to ship out of state to save on the tax, send me a PM.

I really do like the dial on the blue sub, but I'm not keen on the two tone bracelet. I prefer the SS bracelet of the GMT, but not excited about the black bezel.

The black ceramic bezel is actually pretty shiny and reflective. The GMTc is a big, solid looking watch, and it stands out. It's really quite shiny for a steel watch, and that's been an objection to it for some people.

If you want a flash of color without having to wear gold though, Ulysse Nardin makes more colorful sport watches, which are chronometer certified and very nice looking in my opinion. I just wonder if they'll still be fashionable in 30 years.

If you arent into TT braclets, I think you will regret getting the TT sub. For what's it's worth, SS is more of everyday wear for me. And you mentioned that you are a one-rollie guy, and based on our overall post, not sure if you'd want the everyday attention that the TT sub would get you. Best of luck!

I've three Rolexes and my GMTIIC is the best of the lot and always on my wrist. My view is it is the best Rolex currently available, in either ss or tt configuration.

That's a tough call, because both watches are beautiful in their own ways. For me, the IIc won out, but I could see myself in a Bluesy at some point. I think you need to compare the two side by side and see which one chooses you.

Also, with some hunting, you can get the IIc @ the same 10% discount, with no tax to boot. PM me if you want some info.

Let me play devils advocate.

The TT Sub is one of the best looking Rolex's out there
The case design of the Sub is about perfect. The lugs are in proportion to the case and the case is in proportion to the bracelet. The GMT C is somewhat gaudy and the bezel overpowers the dial. After 13 years I have one very small scuff on my Bezel and they are not that expensive to replace. Everyone loves the GMT IIC because it's the latest and greatest and new is exciting. The GMT bezel clicks once for each hour which is much less versatile than the old GMT or Submariner. The Maxi dial is very practicle because it improves the lume, but you already have that.

I would go with the GMT. List, shmist. you want it, get it. You'll enjoy it and forget about the extra couple of hundred in a few days.

I'm going to weigh in now. I say, Keep the LV Sub and get a TT GMT. That way you have an SS and TT. I have a TT Bluesy and want a SS GMT. Same difference.

TT Bluesy, all the way. I'm not a GMT fan, and the Sub is the perfect watch. Prices do get better on both of those watchs so I would shop around. No reason to spen and extra 10-13% unless you have to

To mix things up even more...I've been thinking about the SS/Plat YM as well. The problem is finding an AD that would have all three of them in stock so I can do a side-by-side comparison to narrow it down. Once I decide which one smiles back the most, then I'll work on pricing. I'm hoping to get one by this week or next.
