Authenticating a Rolex
Besides taking a Rolex to the RSC, what would be the next best thing to authenticate one? Will a AD authenticate a Rolex? And if yes, will it be as good as taking it to the RSC?
And can someone refresh my memory on how much does the RSC charge for an authentication? |

RSC won't charge anything for an authentication.
Most AD's won't do authentications.

$150? Just walk in and ask them for a service estimate, or go to an AD and have them send it into the RSC for an estimate.

Posting some large clear pics here an TRF can help, yes an AD will authenticate (atleast mine will) but have heard stories about ADs missing fakes that RSC has caught.

if you ask for a pressure test would they not pick up on whether it was real or not?
I asked in a shop once about my DJ gaining or losing time (cant remember which one now) and he could tell almost immediately that it was real but I guess with an advanced fake he might have made the same presumption |

Contacted the Dallas RSC and they said they don't do authentications. They do insurance appraisals for $150 USD.

all you have to do is go in and tell them you want a quote on a full tune-up -- this way they will take a look at it and if there is anything suspect they will tell you that they can't touch it -- otherwise they charge $150 and it takes just over a week

Toronto RSC in Yonge and St. Claire cannot do it on the spot anymore (last time I checked). You'll have to leave the watch there.
However, I think they are flexible and all depends on how busy they are.

I brought mine in for a service to an RSC. They called back a couple of days later, told me what would need to be done, what it would cost and how long it would take. There was no charge. I think they could and would have told me if mine were fake. Kind of a back-door way for someone to get confirmation.

I kept traveling around my state to the various AD's and showd up to each one asking for them to pop the back off and see if they felt it was real, the first 4 told me to go pound sand, the 5th did it for free and gave me an insurance appraisal all with the promise that I buy from him next time.
I decided to go rather than call because calling allows them to dismiss you out of hand, the guy who ended up giving me what i wanted said if I had called he would have said no. |

Nothing beats RSC in authentication. Visual inspection won't cut it.
