They're Here - TUDOR in Southern California
I arrived in Southern California late last night for vacation. Of course we stopped first at Inn and Out (famous hamburger place) but second on my list was the Traditional Jewelers at Fashion Island (Newport Beach) and sure enough, today was the first day they displayed their new line of Tudor watches. Oh boy, they have some great ones.
Here are a few pics. Even the saleswoman said "I can't believe how expensive they are" So, not sure what that means for those of us who own and love our Tudor subs but it's nice to see them back in the USA. Any other sightings of the Tudors? |

So this seems to suggest no discounting?

I may have misread Tudor threads across the years, but I believe Tudor ALWAYS sells with discount, ie. in all the countries where it has sold for the last few decades.
I have never read of anyone buying at full price (present "fever" for the Heritage line excepted). I don't see how they can continue to be competitive worldwide if they suddenly have a change of heart and say "no discounts!". This would seem specially so if it only in the US; I have read no reports of sudden full price-itis at Canadian ADs for example. |

My opinion is that they will sell very well here in the USA.

I can't wait to see them in stores. The nearest store to me will be Vail I think. I would expect that Rolex will control discounting on Tudor as well, so we are not likely to see the heavy discounting offered for other brands like Tag. I am interested in the Black Bay. I love the retro look.

I went to the Southcoast Plaza Mall in Costa Mesa. This is a very, very high end mall and Rolex has its own shop. So, of course I went in to see if they had the new Tudor line and the salesman was such a snob ! He said "no, we don't have them and we won't be getting them because we are a boutique." EXCUUUUUSSSSEEEE me. I could see he was not the least bit interested in seeing that I was wearing my 1991 Vintage Tudor Mini Sub. He snubbed me ! ! !

I'm not sure that's entirely fair. The initial investment is probably significant and I'm sure some ADs don't want to be forced to carry Tudor. Not that there is any issue with the brand, but many ADs simply don't have the capital to bring in a whole new line. Also not sure that Rolex wants Tudor in all its ADs. It seems as though Tudor purposely is developing it's own distribution network, and this makes sense to me. Sure, some Rolex ADs will probably carry Tudor as well, but by having much of the retail separate from the Rolex brand they effectively expand the number of stores a Rolex product can be found in and establish a bigger footprint overall.

Thanks for the "heads-up". I may have missed it, but did you see what they're asking for the Black Bay? (They list for $3K- $3.5K on eBay). Note: Of course I would rather buy from a TRF trusted, but its easier to check price trends on eBay.

Linda, did you see any older preowned Tudors or just what's available in their present catalog?
