GMT II Questions and Rumors...

Any chance Rolex will come out with additional color combinations for the GMT?

What do you guys think?

I hope red/blue and red/black.

I'm sure eventually they will. I don't know if they will ever go back to the pepsi/coke color combo, but a lot of people are keeping their fingers crossed =)

My AD told me the have been trying for a while with both coke and pepsi but the red is giving them a hard time, it seems eventually they will get it right and will come with at least one of the two options "soon"

Rolex has already perfected the bi-coloured ceramic bezel in the BLNR so why wouldn't they able to make red & blue. We might see a ceramic pepsi at Basel 2014.

They had but it has to do something with the ceramic red that is not consistant, maybe blue is easier. Lets see

Don't know if I'd but one but I bet it would look great. Now if they would just offer the bracelet without PCL's...

My understanding is that it's not possible to do a pepsi with a single piece of ceramic because both blue and black are primary colors, and therefore one cannot be mixed with any color to make the other; with black and blue, it is doable as you start out with a blue bezel and can darken the other side to black. So a coke is probably doable as well and I'd love to see it, but pepsi is doubtful from what I've read.

I have it from a reliable source that Rolex has not considered this yet, but that it's a fifty-fifty chance they will. ......

This is it....

Rolex has tried and can't do it. The Blue/Black is actually a blue insert that is darkened to black. They can not make the red for the pepsi or the burgundy of the coke, but fingers crossed because it would be fantastic.

The woman I deal with at my AD told me that during Rolex training, she asked about a pepsi combo. The official Rolex position as of then (recent) was that a red ceramic is impossible. Rolex chemists have tried but not achieved. Though we know now that red ceramic is in fact possible, as Hublot has made it. I highly doubt though that they will sell the recipe to Rolex.

Of course they could make a Pepsi ceramic, but I suspect they won't. I think you're better off waiting for a "Tudor Heritage GMT Pepsi". Rolex keeps with traditional design evolution, but they always move into slightly different territory.

I guess the exception could be the Explorer II reissue with the orange hand, but I tend to see that as a philosophical return to what that model was trying to be when it was launched. That is, a very specific diversion from the traditional Explorer for cave spelunkers. The bright orange hand was perfect for cave dwellers that would need to see what time of night/day it was. I see the thin red GMT hand on later models as a side-track from this original purpose. They just brought it back to its essence.

I would be really surprised if we saw a Pepsi or Coke GMT-C. Just my opinion of course.

Call me cynical, but I believe, we will see a Ceramic Coke/Pepsi, but not in the near future, as Rolex raises their prices and keeps us salivating over the thought of a ceramic colour bezels.Once the demand for these watches is high, that's when we'll see them.......at mucho denero.

In conversation I was having with someone very, very, very high up at Rolex this exact question came about. His response was a fart and two winks. I am not sure how to interpret this other than maybe. See the photo evidence below.

Hmm, a firm maybe since they found that 3/4ths of the people surveyed regarding the bezel made up 75 percent of the people who took the survey. .
Not sure though. .. :)

My AD told me that the Red dye was giving them an issue bc it kept running. And that eventually they will master it and bring back the coke and Pepsi.

I heard the same from my AD about red bleed over. The fact they've at least gotten that far gives me hope. There will always be challenges, but that's what all that R&D money is for. As for Rolex not following trends, moving to the PCL's was a little too trendy for me. I think a brand like Rolex would want to stick to an "updated tradition," if you will, and will eventually offer at least the Pepsi option.

I firmly believe if they could have produced a Red/Blue Pepsi or a Red/Black Coke, then Rolex would have.

They must be having issues with the red color. That's my take.
