GV too dressy?
I bought my milgauss GV to wear as an all-purpose watch - eg meetings wearing a suit, everyday work wearing slacks or khakis, and on the weekends wearing whatever.
But, this past weekend I was in our beloved tourneau checking out the SS YMII. I was wearing khaki shorts, a printed tee and Polo sneakers. When I went to take off my GV to try on the ymII, the always pleasure salesman blurted, "my gosh, what are you doing wearing that watch with that? That watch os too fancy, you should get a breitling instead." He treated me like i was breaking the first commandment. I just smiled, tried on the ss ymII and politely declined his offer of zero percent financing and one additional year of warranty. Well, anyway..what do you guy think? Is the gv not a shorts/tee-shirt watch like this guy said?or, can I wear it like I originally intended? Or, was this guy just trying to sell me a breitling for whatever reason - eg his commission is better, he thought the ymII was too expensive to make an easy sale, etc?

I would not think twice about his comments and wear what you like! And yes, he was trying to sell you a Breitling, probably had a sales contest going on behind the scenes or something. Enjoy your GV!

I used to work in that type of a sales scene.. And yes, he was trying to sell you a Breitling for sure!!! But he should have done it a little less rudely though.. I am wearing my Milguass with a light thin hoodie and a pair of khaki cargo shorts... I think it looks good!

what a stupid sales pitch!
I wonder, if that kind of thing ever works or if the sales people who do this are just too ignorant to notice how ridiculous that is! |

Too dressy?? I wear my 116619 WG sub with shorts, a tee, and flip-flops on a regular basis. I'm sorry, but insulting a potential customer is probably a poor tactic for selling a watch. You should have told him to stick his Brietling up his arse.
BTW, many Breitlings are WAY MORE blingy than a Milgauss.

Back in the days people would have only one watch and they would wear it everyday at work, at home and while going out, whether it was to eat a hot dog or to go to a Christmas party. Their watches would be very small, dressy looking and a lot would be made of gold or gold filled, I don't think anyone ever had a problem with that. Speaking for myself I mostly wear vintage dress watches and never, ever had a problem with wearing them with jeans or t-shirts as well as dressier outfits, perhaps that salesman wanted to make a sale but in my opinion he is dead wrong and his comment was inappropriate.
...Besides, the GV has to be one of the most versatile watches Rolex ever produced, it looks dressy when worn with a suit but ever so casual when being worn with everyday outfits, had I seen you with such an attire and this watch I would have thought that you clearly know how to wear a watch.

In a word? No.
Perhaps a better comment to a customer you're trying to sell an $18k watch: That's a heck of a nice watch. This one would be a great complement to it. |

Sorry I stopped reading at Tourneau, why don't you like your watch?

The "salesman" was attempting to make a sale, nothing more, nothing less. Don't buy into his take on fashion.

That place kills me. If you guys remember, I used to have the clear crystal milgauss (before I swapped for the GV). When I wore it in tourneau once, a different sales guy asked me why I didn't get it in GV. And inquired whether I just wanted to save $500 at the expense of the look. Wtf.

Wonder if the salesman really wanted to start the sales pitch with an insult. Agree with others - probably has incentives riding on Breitling this month ;-).
Wear the GV as you wish. I see no issue wearing it with weekend attire or in the office. It's versatile watch. |

If I owned a suit I WOULD wear my GV with it.
Until then its just jeans and tees.

Absolutely love your pic!!!! And everything you're wearing works great with the GV!!! I wear mine with all types of attire. I think it's the perfect all around watch! Of course there is no date, but if I had wanted the date I wouldn't have gotten the GV... SO I'm quite thrilled!!!
