Newbie, some Q's please!

Hi,

After much lusting and deliberation I am now in a position to make my first Rolex purchase. I am going for a new black bezel date sub and cant wait. I am a little gutted as I have been contemplating for over a year and as I get 15% off at ernest Jones, was going to buy there but now I have made the decision, find that they are no longer an Authorised dealer.

I can still get 8% off via Watches of Switzerland or Mappin Webb, but the risk is I have to buy vouchers for which I get a discount from and hope I get in a shop when they happen to have a date sub in stock as non will reserve, potentially sitting on the vouchers for months, risking a price increase and more importantly not having the thing on my wrist!, so I have just decided to pay the Money and get the watch at retail.

The questions I have are as follows:

Is there anything I need to be aware of with the Unpacking, should I keep any specific protective film etc to maintain future value?

I will most likely be buying from goldsmiths as I am on all the southern waiting lists, is there anything I need to watch out for

Goldsmiths offer interest free for 36 months, i can pay out right, but has anyone negotiated a discount for fill payment as the IFC costs them money.

Cheers all.

Be gentle!

Welcome to TRF..

I'm sure that shortly you will have dozens of recommendations to save every jot and tittle that may come with, or have ever had contact with, your new watch..

Most importantly though is that you enjoy your new watch..

Great choice the subc date. If you want to save more money than from an ADs then go to newturfers.com, the UK version of here, and buy from one of their trusted dealers like Rolexroz.

Nothing wrong with throwing it all in the box and storing it in the closet for sure. Unwrap that baby and throw it on and enjoy it.

Hi boxerboy, exciting times eh??

Just my two penneth, I bought mine from an ad (I'm assuming you are in the UK) and after 3 visits they knew I was serious ( viewing omega models as well) when I asked if there was any movement on the price they told me that they wouldn't discount the price however they would throw in a watch winder or vouchers for a weekend away, they even asked which city we would like to visit, I took them at their word and paid list price leaving the shop with no vouchers or even an amount, 2 weeks later vouchers for a stunning hotel to the value of several hundred pounds came through. I was more than pleased. The point I'm trying to make is to visit a few times, get a rap pour going, negotiate and it's not all about cash there are other things to sway a deal. I know 100% I will be going to be buying from 'my' ad again. (Been back 3 times till I got the bracelet adjustment just right, and still got a coffee on every visit, no matter how busy they were)!

Yep, I'm in Hampshire, I am on the waiting list for pretty much everywhere, I have been looking for a year or so and now am ready to do it, i have to say though I had never considered second hand until the comment above and had a look at the options, I can get a used sea dweller for the same money as a new sub, argghhh! I am still edging for a new sub though, just waiting for a call to say that one is in somewhere. I plan to propose going for the interest free credit but then ask if they would discount or throw in something as you mentioned if I pay outright instead, they must be losing money on the sale if it is IFC, so may offer something for a straight purchase, we will see!!! I do have another watch that needs a service, maybe I can get that done FOC as a sweeteener.
