Self-regulating and manual winding question

So I've got a 214270 and have worn it pretty much daily (except to take showers) for about the past 3 months. It seems like every month or 1.5 months I'll notice the watch is off a few minutes.

Now when I first got the watch, I wound it up 40x and just wore it. I roughly used my cell phone to set the time and for the most part it was always accurate- I'd check the time every few days- then it seemed like one day it was just off by 3-4 minutes.

So I readjusted the time figuring it was running fast, again roughly to the same time as my cell phone. I then let the watch sit overnight with the crown facing up on its side. Next morning, it was fast by 1-2 minutes. Readjusted it and did the same thing- roughly set it to my cell phone.

Then again it seemed like it was one day off by 3-4 minutes. I read if the power reserve is low, it will run fast. So I manually wound it up for the 2nd time since I've owned it.

Now I've got it set up with the US time gov website and it's running +3 sec fast after 24hrs. So that's within specs. Nothing weird there.

My questions are:

How often do you guys adjust the time on your Rolex vs. self-regulate by lying it on a particular position?

If I wear it for 23hrs a day with mainly desk diving, is that enough to keep the power reserve topped off? Or should I still regularly wind it?

Tonight I think I'll let the Exp I sleep on its side and see what happens...

Thanks for all the input

My Milgauss GV has been settling down since I got it a couple of months ago. I set it to my G-Shock on September 1, and as of September 13 it has gained about one second. Last month it gained 18 seconds all month. I keep it sideways/crown up every night, and quite a bit of time on my desk in the day, too. I have never manually wound it.

As my collection is large enough that PR runs down on many of them, I'll reset them whenever I manually wind then. Otherwise if I wore a single watch continuously I'd adjust it at the end of the month if I have to flip the date.

Don't use your cellphone for timing.

RE: How often do you guys adjust the time on your Rolex

Only when I notice I'm really off.

My Root Beer recently spent over a month on the winder and came off yesterday at +30sec. Less than an avg. 1sec. gain/day

I'm shooting for 100 days, by my calculations (I set it 50 seconds fast almost 2 1/2 months ago) I should be right around 20 to 25 seconds slow meaning I will have lost about .70-.75 of a second per day... not too shabby. I manually wind a couple times a month.

With my GMT II which is about 1 year of age, since new it was running about 5 seconds a week fast. I started leaving it sit with the crown up every night (overnight) and it looses a second or so every night. Now it's smack on and doesn't need a manual adjustment at all.

Mine usually run pretty fast. Every month I have to reset by a few minutes. I have had my sub regulated but it does not seem to really matter if I start wearing it a lot, it seems to run faster. I just reset it and live with it.

As mentioned, don't use your cell phone to check your watch.. Your phone will sync to whatever time source it sees.. You don't have any verification that your watch has been doing anything but it's day in and day out +3 seconds per day.

Icon7 Let it go..

I simply don't look at the seconds or minutes.. Not my job. I live on the Rolex timing, trusting my 114060... Some few minutes more of less does not change my life.. Actually with some minutes less I LIVE LONGER !!

I just let it go.. Let it go.. Let it go.. Click click click..

I live on an island and rely on a tightly run ferry schedule, so accuracy is important to me. Plus I enjoy get peak performance out of my Rolex. I don't think that qualifies as OCD or whatever.

I test for acc. when I first get a new watch. After that don't worry about it. I use to be ocd about acc. ,ruined the enjoyment of ownership!

Make sure you are testing your watch against an accurate source.

If you have an iPhone there is a free app called Emerald Time. Best app to get an accurate time source.

I also like to keep my watch as accurate as possible. Kind of fun for me.

I self-regulate and only reset the time when the date changes. I use my iPad to set the time.

My Sub gains about 1-2 second per day, so every night I set it crown side up. That tends to even things out.

Maybe I'm just lazy...

My GMT IIC is about 6 months old. It's been running about +2 seconds every 24 hours. Have recently started leaving the watch crown side down at night and this does appear to slow it down to +1 second per 24 hours.

So far:

set it to time.gov

day 1- +3 sec faster than time.gov (put it with the crown facing up overnight)
day 2- +4 sec faster than time.gov

I guess I'll take it off at night and wind it up monthly.
