Take it back to the dial changer and ask them.

Definitely something was disturbed during the change. I would bring it back ASAP.

He must have installed a speed dial upside down.

Makes no sense, what did he specifically say when you told him it was losing 5 min./day? Did he test it to specs.?

Lol, You got it, there is no other explanation i agree with Mon, to the op, it can be the hands are set wrong and are touching at some point ( usually when they cross over each other) Or the watchmaker bent them up instead and they drag on the inside of the crystal, have a good watchmaker reset them maybe, use of an aftermarket dial also comes to mind , you did not specify if this dial is original that can explain it also.

Something happened in the install if it was keeping time before the dial change.

Gabriel,

It can happen at times that the movement on the machine looks very accurate but because of a loose canon pinion, the pinion slides if you move the watch and gives you the impression that the watch isn't accurate (it happened with a watch of mine that gained thirty minutes...in fifteen seconds! ).

That's a problem some watchmakers may forget to check at times. If you want to test it, pull the crown and try to set the time, if there's almost no resistance at all when you move the crown then the canon pinion will be too loose and will have to be tightened by your watchmaker. As well, you can try to shake the watch a bit and see if the minute hand moves but the first test is the best because it is possible that it's still too loose even if you can't move it with a "shock".

Please let me know how this goes.

Thats the most probable answer as basically the movement it self would not have been touched, its a very simple job to change a dial on any watch.

If it's too loose wouldn't it then gain time instead of losing time?
If the watch loses time it might be too tight which causes friction, or am I missing something?

It might be original but not original to that reference watch.

Daytona has one of the most accurate movements around. Mine loses less than 1 sec per day.

This is why I would never have a non RSC change the dial on my Daytona. My luck something like this would happen or I would get dust/marks under the crystal etc or a hair falls into the movement. Hopefully they will sort it out for you.

Doesn't have to be too accurate to detect 5 minutes a day...

If it is loosing 5 mins a day then there is a problem. Is he hooking the watch up to a timer to check it? It sounds like he is not a very good watch maker if he thanks loosing 5 mins a day is ok.

You already got your answer on what to check for from FeelingTheBlues.....why do you keep asking rather than check out what he said with your watchmaker or another one????

Like David already adviced you the problem most likely is with the hands.

Use a loupe and study the movement of the hands and see if they catch or rub somewhere.
