I don't know if you could call the SS Daytona "limited" as there's definately no shortage of them...maybe only when compared to other Rolex models.

Also grey market dealers don't seem to have a problem with getting daytonas. AD's are also playing a hide and seek game with this watch.

the 1st time i walked into the AD that i bought my 1st rolex. she offered me the ss daytona right away.

during that time, i not even know it is a hot item. and she said, 12k out the door. but i rejected that offer and just bought the explorer 2.

later, i brought my friend to get DATEJUST from them. and i asked about the ss daytona that she show me. she told me " out of stock"

Well IMHO that AD should be reported direct to Rolex USA and any other AD that charges over retail prices. Its about time the customers stood up to Rolex USA and told them exactly how they felt.

That would be nice, but I gotta believe that most people on this forum and any others would love to be able to buy a Daytona @MSRP and flip it for $3-$5 grand profit and most would. So, I think the AD's should have the same option. Rolex is the problem, not the dealers. All they have to do is manufacture enough of these watches to meet demand and all the nonsense is over.

It's been 2 years since i moved to the second largerst city of greece and walk by the 2 dealerships every day when going to university. Guess what it's been 2 years and still i haven't seen an SS daytona here. I get to see only TT versions and solid gold models

Another thought. What if Rolex decided tomorrow that MSRP on the SS Daytona will $13,000.00. Would the market push the price even higher?

There is no point at putting the price that high. People are buying the daytona cause they are trying to get one at an MSRP price if they are lucky they buy it and if they are not some pay a premium and some not. It's the hide and seek game that intrigues people to go after the daytona. Putting the daytona at 13k has no point at all. Everybody would go for the TT or full gold versions.

If you take a VC Oversea's chrono, MSRP of that one is about 100,000 DKR (about 20 K US Dollars). The quality of the VC movt. is very comparable to the new in-house Daytona movt.

Even at the currrent DANISH MSRP at 54,600 DKR. (10,5 K), the SS Daytona is in fact still relatively "cheap" compared to the VC.

as long as production stayed the same the demand would push the prices higher.

I wonder if it is rather designed limited distribution versus limited production that exists. Perhaps you guys know. I just cynically wonder if it is a ruse to creat the impression of limitation to keep it highly desired as "hard to get". Many people love hard to get stuff.

Velitsko makes a good point. Would people still clamor for the Daytona if MSRP were $12k? It seems that a lot of the buzz is the quest to get one at MSRP, which is clearly difficult to do. However, market equilibrium sets in at around $12k-$13k. If the watch were priced at that point, and you could walk into any AD and buy one the way you can a DJ or Sub, would everyone want one?

It is not difficult to get the Daytona ss at MRSP if you are a clubby....on other words, if you have a good AD relationship, have purchased a number of watches there, you CAN get one, it is just a wait. You are right to say "difficult" if you equate difficulty with patience and earning that status through buying other watches. I would never pay more than MRSP for the watch which was in the late 7K range last I saw. It may have changed.
