GMT II C accuracy
Well after 10 days of daily wearing ( 10-12 hours a day) i measured the accuracy of the watch. To be honest i was meausring the accuracy every day but i waited to reach ten days to share with you the results of the accuracy test.
Well according to accurist site my watch gained 4 seconds so far which i consider great accuracy but here is the tricky part. 10 days ago when i first set my watch the first day it gained 2 seconds and next day it gained again 2 seconds which makes 4 seconds in 2 days. After the first 2 days the watch is consistent at only 4 seconds. So what i mean is that it gained only 4 seconds and after the second day it's been keeping those 4 seconds. It's not gaining or losing any time. I put the watch crown up during night and i realised that if i live it more than 10 hours crown up it goes up to 3.5 seconds fast but at the end of the day it's 4 seconds again. What do you guys think?

I think that's solid performance, and better than mine. My GMT has lost a consistent 1.5 seconds a day since I got it, and I've worn it every day. Interesting about the crown up position. I've always left mine dial up, and now I'm wondering if I should switch it up. Most people say dial up will make the watch run at its fastest.

It's not gaining or losing any time. It gained 4 seconds only once and that's all.

Right but you said it gains 3 seconds after 10 hours if you leave it crown up, right?

Nope probably i typed it wrong. Ok the watch is consistent with the 4 seconds but if i leave crown up for more than 10 hours then the watch loses 0.5 to 0.75 seconds. Once it lost 1 second. Then i start wearing it and at the end of the day before placing it crown up again it gains the 0.5 or 1 second lost and keeps this makes the watch at 4 seconds again.

I have not done this test with my Submariner but my GMT gains four seconds a month if I wear it 24/7. If I leave it off at night crown up it gains two seconds a day (similar experience to yours). I have no idea why. Maybe they speed up as the spring unwinds?

What is interesting to me is that some talk about a watch "running in" and settling down somewhat, but I haven't seen this with the two mechanicals I've owned. If anything, my GMT is losing a little more time after a bit more than a month. I'll give it a few months, and if it hasn't settled down, I may send it in for regulation.
Frostie, definitely keep us updated on yours. |

I have heard that when the watches are new the are usually rather fast but as time passes by the become slower cause oil flows better inside the watch. Is this true ?

If I had to guess, I'd say they'd speed up if anything, as the parts run in and mesh together for a while. You'd think things would be smoother after some break-in. At least with car engines it works that way.

I've been wearing mine since mid-November. My results show:
Wearing the watch 16 hours - Gain of 0.25 to 0.5 seconds 8 hours Face up no change, sometimes a slight loss of less than 0.25 seconds if I sleep in 8 hours Face down gain 0.5 to 1 second 8 hours crown down loose 0.5 to 1 second In general, by wearing the watch and placing it face up when I sleep, I'm spot on. Sometimes a lot of activity speeds it up a bit but I can place it crown down to adjust. Overall, I'm amazed by the accuracy. I've got digital clocks that can compete!

By why did the 4 second issue happen? Did that happen because the watch is still new and it trying to adjust to my wearing habits ?

You are still in the "break-in" period. Give it a couple of months and see.

Since it was a one-time occurrence, I'd bet that's what it was, Velitsko.

My GMT IIc loses about 3 - 3.5 sec. per day, but loses less at -2.5 to 3 sec/day with dial down position. I have found out this to be the same as my SD, where face down overnight it gains less than 0.5 sec, and loses the same in the face up position. My SD is +1.5 sec over 16 days.
