Buyer's market?

I'm sure anyone who's been looking in the FS section has noticed the excellent prices and availability.

Good buying opportunity??? Who's taking advantage? I'm inclined to pick up a piece or two

I've noticed the same, prices seem a little soft and it does look like a good time to buy.

Been watching the FS section and the prices seem reasonable.
The hardest part is finding exactly what I'm looking for...

When I recently sold my SD that was freshly back from RSC service, there were a lot of "looky lou's" who were certainly trying to make it a stealers market!

It took 2 months, but I finally found the right buyer to make the deal at a fair price for both of us.

If "vintage" includes 16610LV and 16613 blue dial, then I agree. Prices on the LV seem headed up, and the 16613 bluesy are at least the same, if not more.

These, along with a DJ, are my grails - have been for a while. My ideal collection would be the 36mm Expy and 16710 Pepsi I have now, plus these three, which would together cost, coincidentally, about what a year of my daughter's public college sets me back.

Hence their grail status as opposed to in-my-safe status.

Seems to be a buyers market with the very attractive prices being offered but I am off the buying spree right now as I have more or less focused and very satisfied with the Crowns that I have.

Plus there is another addiction that I am funding now ... no it's not drugs ;) more of the writing kind.

I have seen some excellent prices too! I guess maybe since it's been awhile since the last price increase? And of course the market comes down a bit....

The reason you'r seeing "good" prices or price declines is because Rolex hit the wall with their pricing and market is finally responding.

Let's look at the current submariner with date. If Rolex would increae its price (due for increase, after a year of no increase at all), the watch would be $9000 plus tax, depending in which state you live, it would be out the door ALMOST 10 GRAND FOR A STAINLESS STEEL SUBMARINER. That is ludacris and insane.

So Market is finally responding, ADs are discounting. Before it would be impossible to get 15% off on Submariner, now you'd be a sucker if you don't get that discount at AD.

Personally, i think prices on TRF will drop even further, so sit tight. Just look at all the "bumps" on classifieds page. Sellers are "protecting" the market by holding asking prices, but I guarantee you, actual sale prices are dropping and the spread between asking and sale price is widest it has ever been.

and if a watch does not sell, sellers are removing the listing then re-posting it later as if it is a new listing. Nothing worse ( in the real estate market as well ) than an item up for sale that sits for months.

You must have not seen the prices on steel PP or AP 3-hand watches with a date. Yes they may be better decorated, but at 2-3x the Submariner price.

Times have changed, I remember when no discount on a SS sub was the norm.

But the market is the market and if nobody buys, prices will come down. Good info to have ready. 15% min discount on a sub from an AD, that's pretty good for us buyers. Would think grey would be even more.

Thats what i mean. TRF is actually expensive. My AD is praying for no price increase.
Unless he knocjs off 10% and 15% off for his good customers, he would never sell a single watch

I have to agree with this. I was literally reaching into my back pocket to pay for a brand new 114060 two-weeks ago and as I was handing the associate my credit card... I slowly stopped and put it back in my pocket and said I needed to think it over. Why?

Well... not because I can't afford it. But because I have common sense. The 114060 retails for $7500... and with tax, it almost came out to $8200 USD. Really? For a watch? I can get two brand new Suzuki dual-sport motorcycles and a trailer for that! Hmmmm...

Rolex's latest pricing structure to me has hit a wall, it's too high, is way above what the market can and wants to support. There's no question that all the newest Rolex models are absolutely stunning. They're the best... they're gorgeous... how can one pass on one. But IMHO, they aren't meeting the price point at all.

Also, as I'm learning about Rolex's, I've become fond of the past. When I get serious about something, like watch collecting, which I've just started, I go all in. I have not stopped reading about everything Rolex. And you want to hear my conclusion? Probably not... but I'm going to tell you anyway.

What does Rolex mean to me? Well, it means simplicity, quality, and usability. And that has led me to a decision. I'm now on the hunt for a brand new, or mint/un-worn Rolex Submariner 14060M G-series. What I thought I wanted, ended up not being what I wanted at all. I was chasing the "latest" and "greatest" and was getting caught up in superficial aspects which in the end meant absolutely nothing. And how can you not pass up on a classic like this, with a mint pre-owned ASP of about $5500. That's $2700 less than a new 114060... w/tax.

The 14060M is IMHO the answer to what I've been looking for. I love the lug-holes... even though when I first got into Rolex's I was looking at them as "yesterday's" technology, ugly, and unappealing. Well, that's not true. They actually make sense. Form and function. I even love the older bracelet as clanky and noisy as they are. Love shaking an older Rolex on my wrist and hearing that noise. Why? Because it has a history and wasn't changed for decades... I have other watches with solid center-links - does it equate to anything special? Not really...

I'm an old-school guy... always have been. Although I'm not that old... I love what I grew up with. And it was a very different time. There are so many other products in my household that have been considered and purchased because they were old-school, old-world... and I'm going to continue with that belief and method... because that is... who I am.
