On the whole "who's best" in strapworld - the thing to consider is the quality of the lining underneath. While the top part pleases the eye, a poor job underneath can irritate you more than "looks".

Hadley-Roma and JP Leatherworks both make good straps at reasonable prices.
For vintage, I also like the straps from Jed at thetimetraveler.com.

I have question along the same lines. What's the difference in quality between genuine alligator leather and alligator grained calf leather?
I mean is it worth the extra $$? |

If you just want the gator look in a dark color, the embossed straps can be fine. I would expect to pay $30 to $50 for the embossed leather versions. If you get much cheaper, you'll probably get poorly done embossing on low quality leather-- a double whammy of crappy product. |

Check out Camille Fournet (http://www.camillefournet.com/). Completely customizable and regarding their quality, know that they are the manufacturer of JLC's leather straps.
