A same watch with 2 options, stainless steel case back and see-thru (crystal) case back, what is your decision? Thanks!

1 for stainless steel case back.
2 for see thru (crystal) case back.

If you are wearing the watch, how do you see the case back?

I think they are pretty cool, but wouldn't pay extra for them (see above).

I don't really have preference for either.

A watch movement seen through a clear caseback isn't really that fascinating.

I can see the fascination with it when its off your wrist but really, how often would you look at it? If you think you would do that often, then its important to you to get #2. For me, I wouldn't buy a watch simply for a clear case back. There is a member here who had a modified clear back for his watch made. I can't remember who that is, perhaps someone else can remember. You can always get one made. ;-)

Depends on the movement. If it's an AP, Patek or nice JLC movement, glass back please! If it's a "boring" movement, I really don't get any pleasure from looking at it.

Wouldn't it be nice to have an extra case back in the box that was a sapphire display version? Gives the owner an option.

I really have no preference. My watches spend most of the time on my wrist so I guess I would just go with a stainless steel back.

Mostly solid case back, with some exceptions.

Been focusing on finding the right panerai with a solid case back, i really hate having to see their ETA movements & no desire for inhouse either (i am happy to have the ETA movement and think they are functionally as good as any, i just dont want to look at them, ever.)

Rolex loves solid case backs:)

As above the speedy pro is a good looking movement.
Many ALS are beautiful & worthy of display as well as some Patek & AP .... But even then for a watch that is actually meant to be worn vs displayed.... I am not sure i can see the point.

I guess after so many years wearing a rolex, i have grown fond of the feeling of metal (vs glass) against my wrist:)

NOMOS lets you choose between those two, they charge €200,- extra for a crystal caseback which is a very nice option on their watches because of their beautifully decorated in-house movements.

If given a choice of seeing the movement or not seeing it, then generally I'd go with a clear case-back. However on my PO Ti I'd prefer solid titanium to reduce the thickness of an already very thick watch.

On Rolexes the see-thru back is a pain if you service via AD/RSC as you have to pull it first. But I see the appeal...
