5010 Bubbleback

New to the Forum, and thought I would post a few pics of a Bubbleback that was my father's. Given to him by him mother prior to him going off to the Korean War in the Air Force.

I had it cleaned up about 10 years ago by a watch repair fellow in NYC who my brother in law recommended. He cleaned it up and go it running again (it had stopped working after my father gave it to me), and the only change he made to it was to put a new crown on it (gold Rolex one, not sure if it's "correct" or not, but will try to find that out here on this forum at some point).

He did have the original case it came in, but unfortunately, he never found the original paperwork on it, too bad.

When he gave it to me, he said to "go trade it in for something newer", but I did not do that, and am glad I didn't.

Anyways, here's some shots of it if I can get them to load OK on this site.

Regards...

Very nice watch, great condition, and a wonderful heirloom. I believe these had good super oyster crowns so it's probably not original. Welcome to the forum

Yes, you are right about the crown. The fellow who cleaned it put this gold one on. I think it had a stainless one on it (?), but since it was a while back, and I wasn't as aware as I am now of keeping things like this completely original, I figured he was doing me a favor.

I see crowns offered for sale on EBay and such (although I have never purchased anything there before), I will now go on the hunt for one.

If you happen to know which one I should have and know how to identify it's part number, I would appreciate any help in that regard.

Thanks for the comments (and everyone else too)!

Regards, and glad to have found this site!

That's Great.
My first Rolex was my fathers 1947 3131 14k Bubbleback that he had also in the Korean War. I put it on about once a week

That is a great one for sure!

Is that still all original? If so, it's in great shape!

Hi Rdwatch I would love to buy the Rolex box even though I think you would be crazy. This is the full story of my fathers Bubbleback
