I would probably explore another brand. If you're going to stick with Rolex, my choice would be a daytona to add to that pair.

Perhaps go out and look at some watches and put together a short list?

I was going to suggest a white dial Exp.II as well. A white dial Daytona is nice, but is also pricey for a SS version. I would still go try it on. LOL

Just saw that pic of Jocke's yahtmaster and is super nice. That in silver or blue might be an option. Also…maybe a DJ II if opposite than the DJ you have might be an option too. I have one with jubilee, white dial and fluted bezel. I would like one with smooth bezel, blue dial with sticks and oyster bracelet. So…perhaps a DJII might work out..;-)

Outside Rolex, for a white dial how about a VC Overseas, a used one costs less than a Daytona and they are tremendous value for an HH piece.

16710 Red/Blue GMT or maybe a Speedmaster Pro...every collection has to have a Speedy!

Curious why you feel you need another watch? Perhaps the Rolex isnt doing it for you and you need to look at another brand that does. Just a voice of reason.

I agree, most collector sites are never good at promoting self control. I recently acquired a pair of new Rolex's, a SubC 114060 and a DJII 116334. In your case of your sons, I can understand wanting another. I OTOH feel that I am pretty well covered with my 2. An Explorer II would be a nice choice to pass on to a younger generation or GMT.

DJII is the DJ but bigger. The BLNR does not look anything like the SubC and that's my suggestion.

Sounds like a YM I/II or an EXP I/II would fit the bill nicely for you...happy hunting!

I have a sub 5513 and a BLNR. They are different enough to have their own character (although new sub c is a bit more similar to gmt ii).
Since Daytona is out of the running personally I'd go with either a DJ2 (turning into a big fan these days) or an Explorer I. DJ2 looks awesome in the various combinations, and the Explorer I had a 'ruggedness smartness' about it. Another option would be the Milgauss GV or black dial which is a bit more funky. Explorer II doesn't look great on me so not a personal recommendation but it does have plenty of fans. You could also go vintage if new models don't float your boat :) |
