So the price increase to the AD is not being 100% passed onto the customer? Also, mark-up and margin are two different animals and I just want to make sure your AD said "decrease margin". Interesting! Thanks for the informaton. Too bad about the price increase.

the reason for having said that by your AD because Rolex has probably increase on the dealer more than the MSRP tag.

Rolex might very well look at this way that is precious metal may go down when it touches the ceiling, within a year or after the U.S. election, which depends on oil level also.
However, with the population growing, and price of oil will fall, it still in high demand. I am calling the oil will be bottom by $50 is the most. And gold still in its high at $800.
For the time being, if oil is up and over $105, gold will go a lot higher....and my cut off would be $1800/ounce.

oil is tested $100 again today.

My AD said the same, March 1st, and he stated that it would be a significant increase, especially on gold models. I could handle 5% but 10% is to much of a jump. It's happening boy's and girls, if you have your eyes on another model, get it now or pay more later.

apparently tag heuer saw a 20% increase. Like you, I hope it's just a 5% jump for SS.

Well, he just stated "5 %", Karis.

Probably, the TT and precious metal Rolex watches will get a higher increase.

Yup! You got it just in time, Jon! Well, it the SD's only gonna rise 5 %, I can live with that, but I don't want any AD with the CRB!

^ Actually, I think she did say mark-up. However, it was put in the context of the next price increase will reduce how much the AD makes on a prticualr watch, so they may not be able to offer me the same deals as before and stick more to the MSRP.

However, everytime I go to any AD they tell me I should buy before the next price increase, so I pay little attention ;)

Thanks. Yea, if I bought an item evertime the price was going to increase; I would never have any money to every buy anything else.

What they said about the lower margin reeks of BS. It simply means they intend to sell their Rolex's at msrp, no if's and's or but's...

Let's see how this goes down as we slide further into recession... Larry.

Come to think of it, I don't ever recall going into an AD when the "around the corner" price increase wasn't mentioned. I did make a visit this past October and was told the usually increase did not come because of the so called "mortgage crisis" here in the States. I thought "Wow! Rolex has a soft spot for us"

Now that it was mentioned, every time I have visited an AD "price increase coming" was always brought up.

Well they have an increase almost every year... so it is normal the salespeople want you to be aware of that!
I believe they loose a significant amount of sales after each increase!

Several ADs in the US have said it will be 10% here, and in that same week you mentioned. Makes sense, given the weakness of the dollar.

It's been a week since I've spoken to any of the 3 ADs I typically speak with, but last week they said that they wouldn't know what the increase looked like until they got the price list. All 3 did confirm March 1st, however.

If that's the case, I may have to buy another one!

Seriously, I'll do the same thing I'm doing with the LV... Buy it and have 30 days to return it... So if the price goes up 10%, I keep it and got a good deal, if not, I return it and buy it later. I've had my eye on a SS DJ ;)

However, the SS DJ would only go up $400-$500, so I'm not sure that would make me want to impulse buy it now.

Well see...

5% isn't good news, but we all knew it was due to happen at any time. I was expecting a bigger hike, so this isn't too painful.
