Gmt Sent To Rolex, Nyc

I set my watch yesterday at noon and today at noon it was -8 seconds.


I called Rolex in NYC and talked to Customer Service and told them abt the inaccuracy of the new GMT ll C.

I queried her abt others having problems and although she was no explicit she said i was not the first one to send in the new GMT for adjustment.


They have very strict instrucions, no plastic tape, brown paper tape with string fibers inside,,, send US Govt Registered Mail and she said declare value of $6,000.

Cost be $20.15 to send to NYC from Fl.

They will have the watch a few weeks, check it out, recalibrate it and ship it back to me for free.

I love the watch but when my DD is -2 seconds for 2 months I am not going to take -8 seconds a day.

We shall see what happens!!

Sorry to hear that. I've been down the same road with a couple. It'll come back in great shape.

Just shows that sometimes COSC is a bit different on a machine than after final assembly and on the wrist. That is was consistent shows the accuracy potential the watch has.

Funny that she stated that this is not the first time she gets an GMT IIc back due to bad accuracy.

if you can't use plastic or brown paper tape how do you close the box? that is what the postal service uses. i am confused as to how they want you to do this.

Registered mail has certain packaging requirements.. unlike first class or other types.

One of those requirements is for paper tape so the seals and stamps can't peel off, and any ink stamp must be able to imiprint (stain) the tape. Also the tape must destroy the paper wrapping when removed..

These are security issues and required or they won't ship it....

ok, so the paper tape was ok, i must have misunderstood. i couldn't figure out what kind of magical sealant they wanted you to use!! lol, i have shipped lots of things and one or the other was always ok. lol

I'm having the same problem with my Sub. I reset it on saturday and on sunday I was -9 Now I'm -13. I may have to send mine in too. Luckily I'm 20 minutes from the Dallas RSC.

the instructions on sending it were very detailed.

and the Post Office knew where to strike the stamp on the taped box so if it was tampered with Rolex could tell.

I used a small box that a Dyna Bee came in (exercise ball) and wrapped the watch in bubble wrap very well.

They wanted my original warranty card (the new GMTs have a plastic credit card). Hope I get my warranty card back.

At the Post Office when I told the Postal Clerk about the requirements about the special tape, he let me take the tape, sizzors and wet sponge to the corner and wrap the box up. I thought that was nice of him to do. I wrapped it up very well.

If Rolex reports to me that there was a hardware problem with the GMT I will ask them to reimburse me for the $20 shipping.

When I bought my Smith & Wesson revolvers and they were less then $700, S&M on 2 occassions when i had stove piping problems gave me their Fed X account number and told me to box the gun and send it in to them which was free to me.

Why cant Rolex do that for a $6000 watch???


The more I think about that the more irritated i get about the shipping I had to pay.

oh well, the price we pay for status and prestige!! LOL

The USPS handles registered items a lot more carefully than Fed-Ex especially considering the difference in contents, a watch vs. a gun.

Great catch Gaijin,, revolvers dont stovepipe,., although they can jam as my chiefs special did.

Off topic, but my brother's 9mm M&Pc is a chronic jammer. Been back to SW many times, same problem. Now back to topic:

My GMT IIc is a bit slow as well, but it is more consistent than my SD. The SD keeps great time, but does change a bit with dial position overnight. I am planning to drop off the GMT IIc at Dallas RSC next time I am in the area.
