I met the Rolex CEO for the USA last night

Stewart Wicht-at a Rolex 24 event in Daytona Beach. He was wearing (shocker) a Daytona, white dial. We talked about the Sub and GMT-II that I have and he remarked what iconic watches they are.

Well...I told him I like the Skydweller and he said "it's so expensive!" and seemed to mean it.

Did you ask if Rolex will be lowering their prices. Rolex should be more in touch with their loyal customers that we are not ATMs. And they need to be reminded that their prices are too high due to too many price increases in recent years.

Rolex watches are always perfectly priced.

It is we who are not always adequately funded.

Rolexes are expensive for a reason. I don't have a problem with their prices, there are more expensive watches and cheaper. Just like cars, homes, everything else. If they were cheap would we all want one? Would their quality be as good?

I think that Rolex like the fact that they are expensive, not everyone can afford and it's a painful (financially) considered purchase for most people.

It adds to their desirability :-)

In many professions the employees get certain perks. For example in many car dealerships you get to drive nice cars for free or a low monthly cost. In many restaurants you get to eat food whilst at work. I'm in finance so I get the equivalent of my 'own' commission or reduced charges - where's this going you might ask? Well I've often wondered what Rolex employees get as a 'perk'? It wouldn't look good if they wore an Omega or Tag, so do they get a free one, subsidised one, or is it part of their package?

As for the CEO of the US, presumably he's a few in his collection :-)

You bring up a good point. All the Rolex AD's Ive been to, they had Rolex watches on. All stated they were their own watches, but now Im wondering if they were part of the uniform for selling the watch. I didnt notice this with any other brand. How odd....anyway, just an observation.

I've noticed that as well. For the most part a lot of them work on commission, but that doesn't mean anything. A very peculiar observation. Looks like it's investigation time. I'll have to forge papers, come up with an awesome resume and apply to work at my local AD... Then during the interview process, I'll as the question. If it's part of the uniform I wouldn't be surprised... If it isn't.. Just watch out for the thread titled: Well, I can never show my face at my local AD again...

Fantastic thread!

Goodnight,

Robb

It was a function that he was hosting so I didn't take up too much of his time. I could talk to a person with his knowledge for a long time otherwise....

Interesting that you ask that-I have a 16710 GMT and I told him I bought it due to the versatility of bezels. He asked if I had the Pepsi bezel (I don't, it's a Coke).
