Unexpected Incoming

I fell in love with the big blocks several months ago, and finally found the right one to call my own. I'm fairly certain it's a keeper.

I posted this in the vintage forum a couple days ago, but haven't decided if it's entirely vintage.

Acrylic crystal - check
Tritium dial - check
Lug holes - check
Rolex case, crown, and bracelet - check
Production year 1994 -

Well just look at the S/N and match it to the many lists to get a good idea...not perfect, but will get you very close.

I just meant that I haven't decided if it's old enough to be considered vintage. It's a B58xxxx which puts it in about 1994. I'm just asking the age old question: "How long until it's vintage?" If it was 5 years old and had the same attributes it certainly wouldn't be, but why not? It makes no difference to me; the only difference is the forum in which I decide to discuss it!

B500000 ...........................1993
B560000 ...........................1994
B590000 ...........................1995

Ah - understand better now.

Rule of thumb to me is 20+ years is Vintage. 100+ is antique.

I would categorize the BB as a "vintage" mainly for the reasons you gave plus the fact that they aren't made anymore. The Tudor website doesn't even show the newer model (792xx), so I assume they are also no longer made, or at least not sold in the U.S.

I just pulled the plug on a 79170 big block , which looks just like your 79160 except it has a moveable bezel. It should be here on Tuesday. These watches are becoming popular but I'm not sure why they are not more so. The Valjoux 7750 movement is solid and they have a Rolex case and crown, complete with logos, with have the same functions as a Daytona with the addition of a date feature. What's not to like? Self-wind, Oyster case, proven movement, chronograph features, and date. It's a bit thick (14mm, hence the moniker) but I haven't heard any complaints about that.

It will join my small collection that includes a 43-YO GMT (owned since new) and a circa ~2004 SS white-dial Daytona that I've had for three weeks. Will post a pic upon arrival.

Love your big block! That is my favorite dial and bezel. I would love to find a 79260, once I find a buyer for my 116264. Wear your Tudor in good health!
