What the Daytona Should Be
If you would like to see what IMHO the Daytona should be take a look at look at the Zenith web site <zenithwatches.com> where they show the new Zenith El Primero 410 Triple Date Chronograph. It also has a moon phase complication. At 42mm it is a perfect size for a chronograph. What do you think?

While that Zenith is nice, I wouldn't change it. Does it have it's negatives? Sure.
But the Daytona's elegance is in its simplicity. It was designed to be a watch used for racing, and it satisfies that need perfectly. |

Its so funny, Daytona seems to be one of the only Rolex watch that people are always looking to "improve upon". Thank God Rolex is like Apple and does what they want to do.

The Daytona is perfect the way it is. Want a date, buy another watch! And for the record my Speedmaster has no date either and it is also perfect as a chronograph.

I agree. I guess its because of the old hype, they want it for the sake of it being the "hard to come by" Rolex but don't really like it. I for one prefer chronographs without the date complication. Perfect symmetry.

keep it the way it is, but offer more dial choices on the SS.

I really like the Daytona at its current size but I do have a smaller wrist. I wouldn't mind a date on it. After all, the El Primero movement had a date function that Rolex removed. But you can't please everybody and Rolex seems to make more good choices than bad as their success proves. Of course that doesn't mean people can't have a wish list. I mean, I want a ROO in about 40mm, but I know that's not happening.

No watch company should ever look at Zenith for design ideas.

Not sure I agree. Maybe 7-8 years ago but not anymore. I'll take any one of those for half the price over a SS Daytona but I am not a Daytona person though so I am definitely in minority here.

I've had a few moonphases and never bothered to set them correctly. Some of the moon depictions are beautiful to behold, but the complication itself isn't terribly useful for most people.
I like that the Daytona doesn't even have a date.

Love the way the Daytona is right now, wouldn't want it any differently aside from a...ceramic bezel!!! :)

the ss daytona with a ss bezel gives the watch and entirely different look and it would be nice if rolex continues to offer this as an option once the 'ceramic' bezels arrive for the ss models in my opinion the current daytona is set apart from all other brands because of its unique look. the ceramic bezel daytona from afar will look like any zenith, omega, tissot, tudor chronograph. the uniqueness will be lost. |
