"New Nautilus/ Basel / Hodinkee review!!!"
Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph/ 5990/1A
~$57,300 is it a 1 handed chronograph? does the seconds hand have double duty? is the center hand counting seconds during the routine use of the watch or does the minute hand in the sub dial count seconds when not in chrono mode? (assuming it is a minute hand, unless it is only a 60 second chrono ) http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/introdu...hilippe-59901a

Too many things are going on on that dial. Plus, the price is steep. Can I have the beautiful 5980/1A back instead?

While this watch has two great complications - chrono and dual time zone - I'm not 100% sold. The dial seems tad too busy. Much prefer the 5164 dial to this one.

I do agree that the dial is too busy.
However the GMT and the chronograph are two very functional complications to me. This gives it an interesting allure imho. Sort of for the man who wants to have everything he needs on his wrist while maintaining the rugged aspect of a steel sports watch. They will sell like hot cakes if you ask me. |

Too early for me to comment. I need to see better pics and even in person. I have always preferred the 5711 and 5980 simple uncluttered dials though for Nautilus line. Thanks for sharing...Cheers,

I really do not like the position of the date indicator, I think it ruins the dial. I'd take a 5164 over that if I want a dual timezone, although I dare say I may grow to like it in time once I've got used to it.

I'd also like to see a photo of the left hand side of the case. Do the left ears no longer attach the bezel to the case, and if so does that compromise the original design of the nautilus?

I don't like the "home" and "local" tags in the dial. Makes it too cluttered. But will reserve final judgement until I see one. PP should have made a Annual Calendar + GMT in precious metal. That would have been a killer.

A windowed date might have cleaned up the dial a little, but then maybe 3 windows is too much. Not sure yet, but I actually think I may like this, and this from someone who is not a Nautilus fan at all!

I agree if they had a windowed date below and the PP name up top this would be very nice. I guess technically it might not have been possible. |

Never liked any watches with subdials vertically across the dial.

Too much clutter. It may work on the computer screen, but not on a watch for me. Besides my eye's are getting way too old.
Those dials may as well be the number 8. LOL

5980s in steel and 5960s in plat/gold are beautiful watches. Why discontinue them. Hopefully it doesnt get too hard to get them.
This new models....will have to wait and see. But at a first glance not my cup of tea. |

Like Ken said, I'll wait for other pictures of the actual model before confirming my thoughts but I'm not quite sold on it...

Great post!
When I posted this earlier today I immediately felt like an arse due to the risk of perpetrating a rumor so I am glad these have been officially announced. I also thought this new Nautilus was too busy. But the more I look at it the more I fall in love. Can't wait to see some videos!! |

Not a fan of this dial at all. When I read the headline, I thought this could be something to go with my Aquanaut- but I think they missed the design on this one.

WAY too much going on with that dial! All of the circles break up the beautiful horizontal lines of the Nautilus dial. I'll take a 5711 or 5726 over that anyday...

I am sorry i know it is comparing orange and apple but I can't help to compare them in back of my mind... However I love the GMT function. Need to see it in the flesh to give my comment. So far all looking good.
