I thought the 3186 movement had been upgraded to a 3187 movement?

My understanding is the 3187 is essentially the same as the 3186 save for several parts that have to be produced larger to fit the 42mm case of the EXP and an improved shock absorption system. |

Yes, it's a physically larger movement (parts thereof) and uses the in-house Paraflex shock system

It's all that I want... Minus the horrifying price tag. So beautiful though

Looking good..
I do wish they had slimmed the bezel numbers down a bit like on the SubC, but still, killer looks..

Agreed, slimmed down numbers on the ceramic GMT bezel would of been nice, but it's still a killer piece!

It'll sell. Mostly to those that have no idea of the history of the reference.

No thanks. Smart move for Rolex though. This may also confirm that only (wealthy / nostalgic) WIS are expected to care about the Pepsi C Vs the mass market.

Love the look, hate the price. If I were going to get a solid gold Rolex sports model, it would be this one!

Its beautiful, but for that kind of money I would rather have the YG GMT. Now if they offered it in SS, sign me up.

A Coke in SS would have been PERFECT. I would have called my AD ASAP.

Beautiful - just beautiful.
But what a waste - by using white gold (with NO technical advantage to the wonderful 904L) they have made this unobtainable - and more of a signal of net worth rather than a horological milestone. |

Agreed. I imagine that they would have sold a boatload if they offered them in SS. I wonder why they made this decision? They must realize how many existing loyal customers would have jumped at the chance to own a SS ceramic Pepsi. The hard cold facts are now many of us will never be able to as the price of admission is just rediculous. I could see possibly see going into hoc for a watch I could pay off in a year or two but the gold watch is way outta my league as it is for many. ROLEX..thanks for nothing!

This thread has really brought out a lot of strong feelings..me included.
I don't think anyone is going to change anyone else's mind though. Rolex chose to go the route it did because they knew they could sell everyone they make. There's a lot of people with big money that buy the name and the metal. Rolex could care less about the collector or one that appreciates the heritage of any reference. Couple years ago the Rolex website was awash with the history of certain models to include letters and tests by the MOD in evaluating the 5513. All gone. Replaced by the glitz and glam we see now. Personally I think it's one of the reasons Tudor is back in the states and in England. To garner the customers they'll priced out of the market as they take their 20 year old movements up the pay scale. I've had a couple collector's comment to me the the new WG GMT is a nice watch, but what a shame Rolex chose the path they took. Oh well,..... |
