Minute Track Dial on 16750 GMT?

Hi All,

With reference to the abovementioned subject, I was in a shop a few days ago and I spotted a 16750 GMT with a minute track dial.

Is that possible since the 16750 was produced between 1980-1988 and during then, the minute track dials were no longer produced. I have been searching the internet but been unable to get more info. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Anyone able to help?

Thanks!
Patrick

I'm the first to admit I'm far from an expert. The enclosed minute track seems to have been phased out with the demise of the 1565 movement in the GMT roughly circa 1965.
As original equiment these were gilt dials. Gilt dials carried on with the enclosure till about 66-67.

Having said that, I am aware of a matt/white lettering enclosed minute track dial used as a service replacement dial on the 6542. Some collectors place these dials as being used in the early 80s on the 6542.

As far as the 16750---no. Even an attempt to fit a 1675 dial would be a mess as the dial feet are different, though some have cut the feet and attempted to glue it directly to the movement---way bad idea.

Thanks Mike for the info. Makes me wonder how a reputable shop with 20 odd years of history is claiming it to be 100% genuine.

The watch was in relatively good condition and I was comparing it with my watch and everything was similar. However, I could not take my eyes off the dial, it was beautiful on the watch. Well..its still beautiful...

Hey Mike! Just like to thank you for all the info provided by you in the past about the GMT's. Inspired by you, we (wifey & me) now have a 750, a fat lady and hoping next for a pointy.

Cheers!
