116244 Replacement dial quote from Tourneau

My MIL's watch met an untimely fate by being smashed by a heavy door closing. Luckily, she wasn't injured, the watch took the full impact. It shattered the crystal, jamming a big chunk of crystal under the hands.

Tourneau says that dial (Silver MOP with diamond square? markers) is ruined and needs to be replaced (I will ask for pics of the damage from them, now that they've taken the glass out). Replacement price is $3,000. Interestingly, they didn't quote new hands in the estimate. That big chunk of crystal was wedged between dial and minute hand.

Does this sound like a reasonable dial cost? Would this dial be impossible to source otherwise? Total estimate is $4,000 after dial, cleaning, and crystal.

Lastly, will Tourneau at least return old dial to us if we ask nicely? It's the Tourneau at Caesar's if anyone knows anybody there who can help.

Thanks in advance.

Rik is my go-to guy, but I'd need to find a dial (if pics show this one is ruined).

Tourneau is the last place I would go for a repair as you describe, especially if I lived in Texas. The Dallas RSC would have dials and competent staff to ensure there was no glass residue and everything that needed replacement was.

The RSC may even give you a trade-in quote for the dial. You will not get the old dial back..

X 1000!!! RSC it would be for myself as well, I will not even step foot into a Tourneau after an experience I once had there.

it'll make no difference taking to to Tourneau, Rik or RSC, the cost of the part will be the same. $4000 sounds about right. RSC would not give you a trade in quote.

If you have time - the damaged dial can be repaired for much less but Michael Young. Anywhere from $150-200 range and up if you want. Certainly much less than a new dial.

Of course it takes more time, 5-6 weeks or so.

As opposed to 4 to 6 weeks with RSC?

No I meant on top of the time to repair the other damage done in the accident. If the dial goes to MY, the RSC won't install it when it returns.

An indie watchmaker will be needed to do the repairs after dial is restored.

That dial is a $4900 option based on the current pricelist, so I'd guess RSC
is offering a replacement for $3k with trade-in required as part of the deal.
