Watch Snob: SD4000 comments
I don't particularly like or agree with anything he says here.
I actually find it relatively annoying. But worth sharing: http://www.askmen.com/fashion/mens-w...ller-4000.html

The snob's articles are meant to be humorous, and tongue in cheek, but this one fell incredibly flat and was quite difficult to read.
With that said, I guess I see what he is saying? The new SD4000 is more "classic Rolex" than most of the new stuff coming out of the manufacture. But it is still a $10,000 tool watch. I guess he is trying to point out the slight... inconsistency. Still, that was a hell of an annoying read. |

So, from reading a column aptly named “Watch Snob”, how could anyone expect anything less than snarky, condescending advice? It is entertainment couched in sarcasm and snootiness with a touch of over the top timepiece arrogance designed to be funny for it's readership.
It seems few here get the the actual gist of it. Annoying, opinionated and a bit informing all at once whilst touching a nerve. By the tone of chat on this forum, I'd say he hit the mark. Agree or not, well done Watch Snob! |

You believe it's not relevant to share here?

Sesquipedalia is the Watch Snob's hallmark. Otherwise, he would not be the proper snob he purports to be.
However, the piece is hardly rambling. The snob's circumstantiality is necessary to tie in all the evidence for his thesis that Rolex seems to be more market driven than it has been in the past. I don't always agree with the Watch Snob and, quite frankly, he has been known to piss me off, but in this case at least, the snob has accurately assessed the feelings of many Rolex aficionados and offered sage advice on how to accept Rolex for what it is, rather than what we'd like it to be. More succinctly, "If you like it,...buy it. If not, [don't]...."

Agree with all of you. Shame this was not a proper watch review, rather than an attempt at trying to massage his ego with his writing...the 'snob' just about says it all

I think (and I stress the word think because I don't really know) that he says in the end buy it if you like it and don't if you don't. Hmmm...what a concept.

Hmmm...it gave me a good laugh! Excessive and over the top with subjectivity, sure! Infused with self importance, perhaps! But still, it is just one man's opinion at the end of the day and he is surely entitled to that as we all are.
The Rolex brand always evokes strong opinions, both good and bad. Is say bring them on! Time for me to go strap on my hideous BLNR with its awful square lugs and thin bracelet. |

Columnists who have to pose their own questions are seldom worth reading. This guy seems to be a classic case in point.

If you read WS on a regular basis, you'll discover that there is more than one writer. I enjoy the more sarcastic one personally. The latest review was pretty tame compared to some I've read.

Betteridge's Law. Moreover, Locutus' Law states: most people's articles say more about themselves than the topic.

I have no idea of what his purpose or take home point was. Maybe his editor told him to write something and he probably screwed around until deadline and vomited that waste onto the page.
