Expeditions and Rolex. A History.
Dear all,
I am going to start a thread. Maybe an ambitious one. I am fascinated by expeditions, and love Rolex watches. The two are linked. Therefore I thought I would try and document as many expeditions that have used Rolex watches. The great and the good. We all know that famously Rolex was involved in the Everest expedition of 1953. So that will be my starting point. I will use the books I have, the inter web, and hopefully people will contribute from the forum. I would like this thread to be a serious investigation and documentation of Rolex and it's contribution to the expeditions. As it will be expeditions from 1953 to the present day. For example I know that GMT Masters were used on The Footsteps of Scott Expedition 1984-87. See enclosed image taken from the book. The general forum may not be the place for the thread long term, (so moderators, please allocate it to the appropriate place). This may take some time. |

I believe Thor Heyerdahl wore a Rolex on the Kontiki expedition.

Yet am not sure the explorers in these adverts actually wore the watch on the trips.. That's one of things I will be looking into... |
