Rolex to sponsor the BBC...
Picked this up from another forum i visit....
http://business.timesonline.co.uk/to...cle3542533.ece I love Rolex but being British and proud of it, the idea of this commercial hook up for the BBC is terrible. Although only available outside the UK it will still dilute the intellectual integrity of the BBC in some eyes. Regards Tim |

Strange one, why on earth would Rolex want to enter this type of Market. As far as the BBC is concerned they probably see it simply as a good investment input from a highly regarded company.

Not meaning to rub you up the wrong way, but I can't understand a lot of peoples views on this. I rightly or wrongly think the BBC is a great institution and being able to watch quality programs or listen to the radio without being interupted repeatedly with adverts is great and it costs just £2.50 a week. Some people pay £50 a month for Sky and get adverts and have to pay extra to watch a sports fixture and them complain about £10 a month for the BBC what is that all about Without the licence fee a lot of local BBC radio etc would get the chop and that is where most people go if they need to find out information during bad weather etc.. it wouldn't be economical for a business if the BBC was self funding to keep that and say Radio 4 and Five Live going. Just my tuppence worth |

BBC, being state-supported like PBS in the U.S., only has had the money the government gives it to operate over the years. In the last 20 years PBS has had fund drives to enlist supporters to help defray the basic costs and add services. 2 weeks a year, PBS has these fund raisers and people call in and pledge money to support the cause. They raise millions and millions. Most of the people that support PBS are finacially stable, educated people that like classical music. People that I frequently see wearing Rolexes. Most are liberals, frequently what I call "Limosine Liberals." I am glad that they give the money, so my taxes don't go up to support this liberal mouthpiece. Coporate sponsors also donate and are mentioned by name on air. I suspect that BBC is taking a cue from PBS. Incidently, one of the services PBS added is BBC World Service. Although I find it incredibly politically correct, like PBS, I listen to it. Their coverage of things like the current troubles in Tibet are far more in-depth than anything here.
