Water in My brand new submariner
I just bought a brand new sub date green, went swimming the same day and water got inside fogging up the sapphire and making little bubbles inside of the magnifying glass. The crown was screwed in the way it is supposed to and water still got in. I am so pissed right now because they found one of the gaskets faulty and I'm going on 2 weeks while they decide to send me a brand new one or repair my brand new one. You pay $9000 for a brand new watch and it leaks the first day. The sub is supposedly a divers watch which can handle 300 meters but 2 feet in a pool. I'll keep everyone posted.

Wow that sucks
You spend that kind of money on a professional divers watch. Hope you get some resolution and soon

I think you deserve a new watch.
Even with the crown unscrewed, the Trip-Lock is supposed to maintain water resistance. In your case the gasket was faulty out of the box, so the watch was not as advertised. I understand that Rolex has the prerogative, but this is the kind of thing that is not supposed to happen and it was through no fault of your own.

It's NOT a blurry photo. The water made it look like it is. Also, see the magnifying glass full of little bubbles. I'm so mad.

Well first the cyclops is just stuck on the the crystal surface so any water droplets must be under the crystal or cyclops glue has a gap for water to get in.Now condensation will quite normally occur when any warm/hot watch is suddenly exposed to a cold environment i.e. if you enter cold water then shortly after warm/hot water or visa verso. In normal circumstances this will appear as a very fine mist and should disappear in minutes/hour or so when the watch warms up. This can be quite normal as the air trapped inside your watch after say a service will have a small amount of water vapour as its just like normal humidity in the atmosphere, if it disappears quickly all is well. Now if the misting appears as clearly definable droplets of water and does not clear quickly when warm, then it signifies that water has entered the case. And this will NOT evaporate of its own accord and will need to be removed then afraid its off to the RSC as soon as possible. Now to all members if this happens and you do suspect water has entered the case then put the stopped watch in a bag of dry rice grains off to RSC ASAP.

Richard371, that's where i am at with it. I called rolex HQ in NY and they told me basically that it is up to the AD. They said that the warranty covers this and that they would go through it and repair/replace whatever problems they find OR the AD will replace if they want. Rolex said that they do not necessarily replace even if it's no fault of the purchaser (such as this faulty gasket situation). I'm going too see what happens but the AD is taking their time which is also disgusting.

In this instance I would demand a new watch! Not sure on the laws etc but over here I would class it as not fit for purpose sold and as that would ask for a new one or just my money back and take my business elsewhere.
I don't agree with a lot of these topics when people demand a new watch as their bezel is misaligned or the cyclops is slightly out, any mass produced item will have certain QC failures but this may be just a case of a failed seal but to me the water ingest has pushed it pass the point of no return! |

Ooooh that is such bad luck...you must insist on a new watch...it was not fit for purpose.
Note your serial number and refuse an exchange. Good luck. |
