Depends on what I already owned, my budget and which felt best on my wrist.

Tough. If only planning on ever owning 1, probably sub. More versatile. But daytona is choice 1a.

I currently own Sub C and EXP...if I could only choose one, it would be the Sub. I am not a big Daytona person (other than the Platinum version with the ceramic bezel) because I find that it wears a little smaller than I prefer.

This is like a lottery wheel without knowing anything about your current collection or tastes or needs. Good luck.

Go for the Explorer
I had a 1501 date that I miss ... bought it in 1974 for half price.
A great beater=daily wearer. I recently got a TT Datejust ... too much bling. I have a new Explorer I, and it's terrifically benign. No one notices. Just what I wanted! A new daily wearer. Go for the explorer. |

As a first Rolex it would be sub vs. daytona.
If your work involves dressing up, I would go with the daytona. Reason? More dressy than sub, but still able to handle weekend duties. If not, the sub all the way! |

have you gone to AD and tried any on? This is huge, as soon as it goes on it either makes you smile or you will think no big deal, what's the fuss....keep going back until you are 100% sure.... big difference with price too.... you could have sub and exp for price of Daytona

Which sub? The classic or ceramic?
Which Explorer 1? 36mm or 39mm? I have both the Sub and the Explorer , the classic 16610 and 114270... Is this your first rolex? If so, I would go Sub than Explorer 1. Not a fan of chronos... All the best... Cheers. |

Sub- default choice for a first Rolex for a good reason. Can get date/no date. I think it's the most casual out of the 3. Wide variety to choose from- black bezel/dial, green, two tone (blue or black dial), white gold, yellow gold
Daytona- wildly popular and nobody would fault you for getting a Daytona. If you want a chrono, this is it. But no date. You can get it in two tone, yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and even platinum Explorer I- my personal favorite, I'd say this is the left-field first choice for a Rolex. No date. I think this is the most dressy of the 3. SS only But really, can't go wrong with any of them. I've got a Explorer I and am leaning toward a Sub, but the Daytona is a lovely watch too... hard choice you have to make, but it's a good problem to have! |

You can't go wrong with either of these watches, how about a a sub or GMT II C first and then a Daytona ( white)!

My order of preference is exactly as you have them listed with the Sub being the most preferred.

Being that I have a 16610 sub I would go for the 39mm Explorer.

1st buy.....might I suggest the 50th LV.
Out of your choices I would choose a Sub. Save the money for the ceramic GMT, if you want ceramic.

Sub, Daytona, Explorer. But you should consider the new SD or a GMTc II
