First ding on new Submariner

Made it almost two months but now it's officially broken in and has a battle scar. Now I certainly don't want any more battle scars than necessary, but to me, it goes with the territory. I have an Air King that stays mainly locked away and is in pristine condition. However, I bought the Sub to wear and wear often. I saw no reason to buy another Rolex and not expose it to routine wear. Therefore, I expected a few dings and scratches. Not sure what I did but it has a very small indentation on the top edge of the case - just enough to notice if you look for it. Also has a very small scratch visible to naked eye. In my mind, it's part of wearing a watch.

Agreed... saw my first ding on the back corner of a lug on my BLNR yesterday (not even totally sure how it happened). Part of life! I'm gonna wear it and enjoy it.

I hate dings but realize they are part of wearing a watch. It's really amazing how many times you actually bang your watch against something even when you consciously try and avoid it. It's inevitable.

Yup...enjoy it and stop looking. Especially if you need to scrutinize it to see it, you're working too hard to upset yourself.

There is always going to be extra caution used when a new Rolex is purchased, but in time, there will be another ding and another scratch. This is a fact of life. It is quite irritating in the beginning as you most likely went out of your way to try to stay away from areas that may damage your watch.

I picked up a brand new GMT Master II BLNR last Tuesday and have been very careful with what I do with it, but wearing it almost everyday to and from work and into the evenings, it will just be a matter of time before the scratches show up, especially on the PCL's. The first one will be the most upsetting, but it won't be a big deal after that.

The most important thing is to enjoy wearing your watch. You have a beautiful one.

I have scratches everywhere on my Sub, except the bezel insert and the crystal.

It's just something I don't worry about. Now, if the bezel insert or the crystal gets scratched, those would be replaced most skosh.

The dings and scratches on my 116610LV make it mine. The first ding/deep scratch is the hardest to endure.

You've got yourself a nice Chamfer there! I'd leave it! ;)

But in all seriousness, I'd wait it out and then send it to ABC or RSC when you get it serviced ask them if they can laser weld it out without removing metal. I'm sure its possible on that one.

Funny how often you see a ding and have no idea how it happened while at other times you totally bash your watch against something and when you investigate the nature of the carnage you must surely have caused there is absolutely nothing there.
