Phones-big screen vs. small screen.

I'm still searching for just the right screen size for my next cell phone. I have the 4" htc presently. I like it because it is so inconspicuous, and reminds me that it is just for communication and light correspondence when needed. I was given an iphone 4, just last week, which is even smaller than the htc.

Now what I see is that many are carrying the much larger 5" screens on their phones. I'm thinking that many are doing some heavy work on these phones and need the larger view. I don't think I would use it for much heavy lifting, but I do like to follow the scores and "live track" on ESPN, MLB, SF Giants, and Yankees when the women around me want to watch some Lifetime romantic or Hallmark movie--which is pretty much all the time. How many of you have ditched your small screen device for a larger screen? How many of you use your device as only a communication device and the live/video only occasionally?

I use my iphone for almost everything anymore. It's fine for me size wise but I imagine once I'd have a larger screen in my hand I'd like it. I wish that Apple could make the iphone viewing area larger by an inch but still keep the actual phone dimensions the same, now that would interest me. For now I'll keep using my iphone 5 and look through the bottom half of my bifocals...

I'm with Tim. I'm due for an upgrade & waiting to see the new IPhones before making a decision. I currently have the 4S & love the size but wish the actual screen size were bigger. I see some people with these huge phones on their belts & it looks ridiculous.

I have an iPhone 5 plus HTC one. I have almost abandoned iPhone after getting used to with HTC one. 4.7 inch to 5 inch screen is adequate. Not less or more than that.

Spec wise, yes. Apple is behind all Android flagships. Having said that, the iPhones have always performed very well despite the specs. That tells me that iOS is optimized perfectly. Without a really good OS, specs alone are useless.

Now that Android is dominating, Apple will be forced to step up their game. I think the iPhone 6 will be a pretty serious phone.

I'm not sure if I am ready to switch back to an iPhone. Going from the 4s to the 5s, I was happy with the upgraded internals, but I was so disappointed with the lousy build quality. It felt like Apple really cut corners which really left a bad taste in my mouth since Apple has always been about building very solid products.

I have a Samsung Note 3 and love it. Don't think I could ever go back to the smaller screen. Only a small percentage of my phone usage anymore is actually calls. Mostly emails and apps, like tapatalk for TRF. It's I think as big as I could go without it becoming a hassle to fit in my jeans pockets. I would really recommend it. I've had every type of different phone but the note 3 is the best I've ever had

I have an iPhone 5 and I love the screen size. Half the time I slip the phone into my pocket & its hidden. Im not sure how I will feel about a bigger iPhone but the 6 is supposed to be (according to the rumour mill) 4.7". There are plenty to choose from out there for everyone though. ;-)
I'm also in agreement with Tim about the bifocals. :-( But I love that you can expand the screen. LOL

I used to laugh at phones with large screens, but not anymore. Once I bought a phone with a larger screen, I can never go back. Currently, I have a Nexus 5 (5 inch), but I am looking to upgrade soon. The new iPhone 6 (5.5 inch), LG G3 (5.5 inch), and Note 4 (5.7 inch?) are on my radar.

I have the iPhone 5 and am quite satisfied with the screen size. If I want a larger screen, I use my iPad or one of my notebooks or my desktop. I see people with large screen devices and wonder why.

There will be two models, 4.7" and 5.5". Once you try out a phone with a large screen, you'll never go back.

I am still using a 4S and needing the lower part of my tri-focals all the time. I am holding out to see what the iPhone 6 will be before upgrading. It is supposedly due in September. I am very sure I want a bigger screen.

I use my phone for a lot more than calls, texts and email. The extra real estate comes in handy for at-a-glance information and control of the phone functions.

It's nice not to have to carry a larger tablet to perform many of the functions that would be difficult with a smaller screen. It's all in one small device.

The keys on the virtual keyboards are larger, minimizing "fat fingering".

Love the screen size and picture on my Galaxy S5.

Well being a bit of a cheapskate I thought it was about to update my old phone as it was well over 6 years old,and I did not want to pay these silly prices for I phones etc. So looked to the east and China the same guy I bought my tablet off a few years back which is still operating fine after almost 3 years now.Now he recommended a few brands but one THL gave very good spec for the money,so I ordered one from him a Octa Core 1.7GHz processor with 2GB Ram and 32GB Rom on phone with further 32GB on SD card running Android 4.2.3 jelly bean.It has dual sim cards standby both sims 3g 2g, Capacitive multi-touch 5inch IPS screen Gorilla Glass3 Double Tempered FHD screen 1920X1080 total Screen Colours 16000K.The camera and video is superb 13MP front 13MP back its from Sony IMX135, full GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA which works very well as good as Tom Tom.Bluetooth 4.0 WIFI and all other main bits even come with screen protectors and a nice leather flip case cost just under £100 took 8 days from order to arrival direct from China. And after testing phone with the AnTuTu benchmark software results were just a fraction over the Samsung Galaxy S4 its result was 27435 my phone 27515 its very fast and boots up remarkably quick had it a few weeks now and running fine well pleased.

I wouldn't recommend this for something I was planning to plug in overnight and then go to sleep near.

For £100 you can get a UK sourced Motorola E or Motorola G which you know is going to be safe.

And why ever not most phones today are made in China like the Iphone I have not had any problem with my phone or tablet had that for over 3 years. And its a UK plug charger don't stereo type everything if its made in China. And to get the same performance as my phone I would have to pay silly money like for the Samsung Galaxy S4.

There will be different QC processes in place between the iPhone manufacturers and a no name cheap brand.

I'm not stereotyping anything from China, in the same way I wouldn't buy an unknown make of electronic device from a market stall, I wouldn't buy a non EU approved electronic device to plug into the mains and hope it doesn't catch fire whilst me and my family are asleep at night. The plug may be a UK three pin, but I am certain the electronics won't be approved to an EU standard...

There are enough incidence of after market chargers catching fire that to save a few quid the risk/reward is not worth it to me. An S3/S4 used would probably cost an extra £100 or so, or like I said, a brand new UK sourced Motorola E or G is the same price.

you have to be careful with run of the mill android phones sometimes the quality is not there.

i bought my wife a huawei p6 it is up to par and slim for girls. but i still prefer the inhouse android of sony ericsson.

I have a GSIII that I've had for almost 2 years and since I use my phone more as a computer than a phone, a larger screen is something I will definitely consider.

I'm due for a new phone on 12 July. Since the S5 has been on sale at least twice since it came out in April, I definitely won't be buying one until it goes back on sale and I might even wait for the S6, depending on how it all pans out.

The main thing is that a somewhat larger screen will be up for consideration, as long as it's an Samsung Android.

If you're set on Samsung, I'd wait for the Note 4.

I may very well do so.

However, there have always been some things about the Note that have put me off, even if the screen is a good size and the phone fits well in my pocket.

I don't recall the details now, but the Note isn't just a big Galaxy and it seems that the Note has features I don't need whereas the Galaxies have features I like better.

Also, in the past the Note has had the same screen resolution of the Galaxies, but that resolution is diminished by the larger screen and that resolution is optimal on the smaller Galaxy screen.

At any rate, I will have plenty of time to make comparisons and get the one that best fits my needs.

Price is also a consideration, not because the price of the Note breaks the bank, but the Galaxies have offered the best value, in my judgement.
