I believe that would have to be a quartz watch, obviously.
One of those quartz that automatically adjusts time according to atomic clocks.

I meant Known by all people in the world. By all walks of life. I'm not a newbie in watch collecting. I know the higher end brand like the Patek, Ap, Vacheron and so forth. It's just my Opinion that anywhere in the world, they know the brand Rolex.

Clearly Casio is more popular. It's really fascinating that around christmas time, the statistics spike. also interesting that there is a general downward trend, most noticeably for casio

On the OP's question - popularity is fickle thing but I'd agree Casio has the plastic world covered while Seiko has the metal-cased watch world well in hand.

The question is, will luxury watch sales return to pre-crash levels, or is the decline a function of the smart phone and some younger people not even wearing watches? So if the latter, then the decline may be permanent.

By the perimeters laid out, I would have to say Casio or Seiko. A mechanical watch is only going to be so good for so long. It is mentioned all the time on here, how you lay it down at night can impact how it keeps time. I can't say the same for any of my g-shocks.
That said, Rolex does a helluva job marketing. That is one of the reasons they are as popular as they are. I imagine they out-spend a lot of others at their price point. But, just because people know about them, does not make them the most popular by the criteria laid out. |

I'm in agreement with many here so far with Casio's G-Shock filling the requirements set forth. As for what are considered "luxury watches," then I would think Rolex would be at or near the top(remember many here complain and bitch about the accuracy of their Rolex watches when they are only 2-3 seconds fast or slow a day and how they expected better)!!!

Oops...yes, I agree, Timex watches are very popular at least here in America. Remember their advertising back in the 1960's, " Takes a licking and keeps on ticking."

The toughest nest watch is def a g shock, it's also awfully reliable and accurate. Rolex is the most popular higher end manufacture, if that's what you're looking for?

I'm sure a Casio G-Shock could take that prize. Most well known and popular luxury watch is Rolex.

a $20 cheapo Casio or Timex ... doesn't even needs to be shock resistant or solar.
they are accurate, reliable and tough enough for most people and cheap enough to be replaced once every 3-5 years.
