Dodge Hellcat... HP CRAZY!!

https://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motora...203805750.html

With 707 horsepower, Dodge Challenger Hellcat out-roars all muscle cars

.

By Steve Siler
July 1, 2014 4:38 PM

It’s been a huge car industry secret for most of 2014: how much power will the new supercharged 6.2-liter “Hellcat” V-8 in the 2015 Challenger SRT produce? Today, Dodge reveled the answer: 707 hp.

That’s, um, a lot. The massive engine also makes some serious torque, to the tune of 650 lb-ft, which is enough to turn its massive rear tires into pools of molten rubber faster than you can say “bad kitty!” According to Dodge, this makes the Challenger Hellcat the most powerful Challenger ever, Dodge's most powerful V-8 ever, and the most powerful muscle car ever. (So you don’t have to look it up, Ford’s previous-generation lighter, smaller Mustang GT500 currently boasts a huge 662 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque, while the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 makes a comparatively wimpy 580 hp and 580 lb-ft of torque. Yep, they’ve been served.)

Gotta make sure you have the right key, however. The Hellcat engine comes standard with two key fobs, red and black. You’ll want the red one, as it is the only one that unlocks the full 707 hp and torque; the black key fob limits the engine’s output to “just” 500 hp. The mean kitty’s partner in crime is a new eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control, of course. A full raft of hero-making track apps also comes as part of the SRT Hellcat package.

The engine debuts later this year in the 2015 Challenger, which dons mildly refreshed headlamp, grille, and taillamp designs and as well as an all-new interior, which Dodge says is inspired by the classic 1971 Challenger. Watch this space for our first drive of the Hellcat and the rest of the refreshed Challenger litter in coming weeks.

That's insane. I don't even want to know what that must cost. It's like we're back in the muscle car horsepower race all over again.

awesome. as far as price im going to take an accurate guess and say $75k even though it has the HP they are gunning for the gt500, camaro z51/z28 crowd. vipers are $100k and that is still their "top" car.

Well the Z28 only has 505 horse power but it has the race handling pedigree that puts it in another class. It did the Nurburgring in a little over seven and half minutes. Not many dodge's capable of that.

This is a ZL1 competitor for sure.

7:12 for the last gen Viper ACR. But the Challenger is far heavier and less track capable than the Viper. Would be interesting to see how this behemoth (Hellcat) could do there.

I said "many" not none, plus the Viper doesn't count

None of the ZL1's that are being driven are stock. Sure there are stock versions that have been squirreled away by collectors but the platform is meant to be a canvas for drag-racing sick-o artists.

There are stock ones and there are modded ones. But a stock Hellcat vs a stock ZL1..... the ZL1 is going have some rubber thrown at its grill.

Its tough to compare the Hellcat vs the vid of a modded ZL1 you posted, anyone rolling up to that ZL1 that cam's that hard knows they're in for a tough race

That is just insane

That car needs a lot of things but 707 hp is not one of them.

It's like a cigarette boat for land lol

Honestly, as long as you have a decent driving record, I doubt it. A lot of the cost is based on statistics. Since these will likely be higher priced and not driven regularly, it may be surprisingly low. In my 20's I could insure a corvette cheaper than I could a trans am. I can insure a viper for an amount very similar to my Taurus. Even exotics are not as bad as one would think, though still not cheap.

Dodge needs to put that thing on a diet. They wouldn't need 700hp if it didn't weigh as much as a big boat.

I pay $2K per annum for a 2006 GTO which is 400/400. Full comprehensive coverage, max liability limits, no accidents and no tickets, 20K mis driven a year for business and pleasure. 50+ year old driver.

Not bad I am starting to think I'm getting a steal. 13' 991 c2 15k miles per year. Max liability etc $860 per year, and I'm 26.

I think the 911 gets a benefit from legally having 4 seats? Maybe that's nonsense.

Car insurance in the US is cheap. Try living in Germany where you are forced to have 7.5MIL EUR in liability coverage. My insurance nearly tripled from what I paid in the states (DC region). Never had a wreck; no tickets in at least 25 years.

FWIW, I had a Ford Mustang Cobra SVT; it was a great car but mainly excelled at getting into traffic. Not much use for the extra ponies it had in day to day life. Mine was yellow; it felt like driving a cartoon.

For cars like this, agreed value collector car insurance is the way to go. I insure a Viper and a Corvette for less annually than I pay every 6 months for my 2 "drivers".

I remember choices like this:
Morpheus: This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.

From the Hellcat story:
The Hellcat engine comes standard with two key fobs, red and black. You’ll want the red one, as it is the only one that unlocks the full 707 hp and torque; the black key fob limits the engine’s output to “just” 500 hp.

I can't wait for these to show up in races next year at HP tracks like Sebring, VIR, Homestead and Road Atlanta...

Dodge is back on the top. i read a small article where a junkyard's car crusher was powered by an old MOPAR 440. The engine has killed over 8,000 cars. That's power and Dodge, i think had remembered where to find it.
