Changing clasps
A few weeks in and I'm adoring my newest watch, a 16710. I love the Pepsi bezel, the GMT functionality, the lug holes, and many more things. One thing I'm not loving though is the fit. With the hot, humid days we've been having in LA this week its seemed like I've had two options:
a) Fits nice and centered comfortably while inside, but gets really tight and uncomfortable outside b) Super loose and floppy inside, but comfortable when out and about I'd tried all the various combinations between 14.8 and 15.2 from the chart on http://www.minus4plus6.com/bracelet.htm but just couldn't seem to get the perfect fit I have with my 214270 Explorer. The best seems to be 15cm (11 links, hole 5), but then I have no bigger micro-adjustment hole for when it gets hot. So I thought, why not see if I can put the clasp from my 214270 on my 16710? Turns out, its very easy with a 1.4mm screw driver! Just the difference in the size of the clasp seems to give me the perfect fit (15cm) for hot or cold. And if my wrist really swelled I'd have the EasyLink deployment. Now, this is a great choice if I'm going to be traveling for an extended period with just the GMT, but not something I want to do all that often. It got me googling for a spare clasp, and it appears its very tough and expensive to get official Rolex EasyLink or Glidelock clasp. Do any of you use an after market clasp with this newer technology for your older Rolex? |

I've always thought that Rolex should sell us the newer clasps to update our old and tired watches..

You and me both! I'd certainly love to pay them good money to upgrade the clasp. They probably think it would cut into sales of new watches though if people could upgrade parts of their older watches. And they're probably right

You know, I actually thought about doing the same with my Explorer & GMT, but really think the watches are best served by their respective bracelets.

And Libertine, looking at your watch lineup we must have the same taste. The ND sub is the latest watch I'm now starting to drool over.
