116200 decision needed. Black vs White
Going to the AD tomorrow afternoon to pick out a new DateJust 116200, smooth bezel on a jubilee. This one is being bought as a gift so it can't get flipped and I am struggling with the dial choice. I have it down to 2 dials. White sticks or the black concentric arabic. I hadn't even considered anything but the white as I have always had and been drawn to white dial watches, DateJust, Daytona, ExpII all white. Only black dial I have ever owned was a Sub. However I saw some pictures of the black concentric dial and loved the look, I spoke to my AD and they had one in stock but with the oyster/fluted bezel which I took a look at last month just to get an idea of the dial in the metal and it really does look nice in person. I have also seen the white in person many times and it is also very nice and clean. One thing I should point out is I don't have a Rolex at the moment as one usually has to be flipped to buy the next but as this one is going to be a gift it will be a keeper and will also be my daily wear. I notice a lot on the forum that for a first/only Rolex most advice is to get a black dial.
The black concentric is much more unusual than the white stick and also has a bit more lume on it which gives a slightly more sporty look it also doesn't wear as small as the solid black dial but does wear slightly smaller than the white (not an issue really as I have a small 6.5 inch wrist which is why I prefer 36mm DateJusts). My real concern is legibility, I don't think you can beat white sticks for legibility on the datejust. Any black/dark dial 116200 owners out there who have any issues with legibility on their watches. Thanks. |

Pictures would be great - I would go with the black dial since it's more versatile from a day to day perspective. If it's a smooth bezel/white dial and a fluted/black Arabic choice, I would also prefer the fluted bezel since it's more of a classic Rolex look
Good luck with the decision and do post pics when it arrives!

Thanks for the input. Not it would be smooth bezel and jubuile which ever I choose, AD will order from Rolex. Just showed me the fluted to get an idea of black dial. I am not a fan of the fluted bezel personally. Here are some pics I took from google:

That black dial looks great especially with the red date wheel.

Both are great. The white is simpler and more classic. The black is more modern and stunning.

I like the black because I like the difference in color and it makes the markers stand out which gives it an accent

I think white is best for you. Your next Rolex, and there will be a next, can be black.

White dial. Not a fan of the concentric dials. If you want diversity, then go with a black dial with sticks or to really mix it up, get the blue roman dial.

If this is a concern go for white ! The concentric black (in my case blue) is hard to read in low light conditions. Nothing will beat a white dial in legibility !

the white one is much more neutral/classic, which would make a better gift. styling on the black dial is hit or miss, too risky as a gift. though if you really liked her just buy both!

If it can't be flipped then don't get concentric circles... It will probably be out of style, maybe 20 years, who knows. Go classic.

WHITE.
You can read it easily on a night out in town or a dimly lit restaurant. It flows with the bezel and bracelet smooth or fluted so it will appear to wear bigger. And will go with any type of outfit regardless of color and will stand the test of time. Batons are classic create a nice even flow within the dial Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That black concentric looks SUPER! Especially if it has that roulette datewheel.
