Buying A New SS Sub No Date "M" Series In L.A.

I already posted this in the Watch Out forum, but, since I'm new, I'm wondering if I shouldn't have posted it here. Forgive this repost.

I'm lined up to get a new SS Sub no date "M" series at an AD in Sherman Oaks, Calif. They are selling it to me at $5,300.00 out the door (in other words, no tax). This seems like the best price I'm going to find.

Should I pull the trigger on this?

P.S. I hope I didn't commit a Forum faux pas by posting price/dealer. We do it in automobile forums all the time...

You can do better. I bought a Sub Date for $4650 plus tax before the price increase. Keep looking.

So basically they are offering it at list with no tax. As those above have said, you might be able to do better, but if you want to by from a local AD, the best thing to do is shop around. If you can get one cheaper in your area, great. If not, then you have to decide what it is worth to you. If you want to get the best deal, then keep looking (perhaps out of state). If you just want the watch, there are not alot of others around, and the prices seem pretty standard, the go for it.

Though how good of a "deal" that is, depends, I suppose, on what the sales tax is in california.

Some people do better, some don't, I think it depends on where you are and local demand.

I personally would not pay that. Also, if you are patient, there are better deals for these from TRF members.

Technically yes, but they often are BNIB.

I'm getting close, but I may have been optimistic about getting an "M" series Sub. Everyone wants to quote "Z" series. However, I have found a few "M" series GMT II "Pepsi" models, which is interesting. But the prices on those are high.

Anybody with a line on some "M" SS Subs no-date . . . ?

Every time I try to locate a dealer on rolex.com, it crashes my program. Is it because I'm on Mac?

Thanks. This is a great forum.

I am not sure it would make a difference. The serial numbers don't really have much to do with pricing (so I have heard). From an AD, new is new, especially when there are no real changes in the model.

Marrk, that's true. Recently there was a bit of buzz around the "error dial" of 16710 GMT Master II - The last batch of 16710 has the error "GMT Master ||" printed as well as the new 3186 movement (used on the GMT2c line now), instead of the previous 3185.

However, for the nd sub, the movement has been stable and unless there is new announcement in Basel, nothing will change.

Thanks, Careless.

Yesterday,I spoke to an AD who claimed to have some of those misprinted-dial GMTIIs. He said he could get me one from another store (Polacheck, a chain out here). He did not say anything about movements.

Today, I spoke with a "watchmaker" at an AD in the OC. A Ben Bridge in Costa Mesa, I think. He said that all Rolex movements with dates were 3135. The no-date sub is 3130. He said the new movement (of the ceramic bezel GMTII ?) is the same as the old except for a blue hair spring.

Anyway, that's all I know. Your numbers may be right and the "watchmaker"'s may be wrong. I'm just adding what I know to the data here. (I'm a total newbie, so you will have to overlook my enthusiasm.) (In fact, I am not a total newbie, since I've worn an SS Sub on my wrist since 1970, but I feel like a newbie.)

By the way, with a new Rolex watch purchase, what paper(s) should come with it?

The Deed Is Done. Time For A Tequila And TRF.

Today, I bought my second Rolex. It is again a Submariner and, like the first, it is SS no-date. I am kind of excited about this buy, because there is a 38 year lag between the first purchase and the second.

Before anyone asks me to post pics (I'm an imbecile. How can I accomplish such a thing?), and before wasting anyone's time with me telling them how I feel as excited as a nine year old girl with a new Easter dress, let me say this. I had all of about three posts on this forum when veilstylez b/c-ed me about hooking me up. Now, I'm from New York. My mamma didn't wash floors for thirty years so that her little boy could go off into the world and get plucked like the first chicken off the back of the truck. In other words, I was skeptical. But, from start to finish, veilstylez made this thing happen. He sent me right to the guy, I got a killer deal, he is a great friend, and I've only known him for 24 hours. I would not have this watch (at what I paid) tonight except for veilstylez. How do such things happen? I guess it's a TRF thing. I'll see if I can get used to it — this people-being-nice-to-me stuff.

In short, thanks to veilstylez and TRF.

Now, I'm looking for a "Pepsi" M-series GMT-II. New from an AD. I'll be in San Francisco on 4/4 and Berkeley on 4/5, if anyone has a line on something up there.

P.S. By the way, is it okay to re-post this "Pepsi" GMT-II thing as a new thread?
