Tudor Big Block

Apart from the scratched up bezel and acrylic, which I guess can either be restored or replaced, is this a good one? Not really my area, but I like it. Only got the one pic. Thanks.

I think it's a beauty. It's outside of my area, too, but I like it.

Looks like an early Big Block due to the dial [angled hour markers, date window outline]. I'd have the crystal replaced, bezel polished and repainted during service. That would really erase lots of years on this beauty.

Thanks Dan, so possibly early 90s? I have asked for the serial, don't have it yet.

Early 90's, possible very late 80's. My Big Block dated to 1992 and it had the second version dial [straight hour markers, no date window outline].

I think the tachymeter bezel looks way cooler though... I love it.

I think so. I will see it tomorrow, it's with a dealer I have bought a few from before.

I absolutely love the Big Blocks, actually Dan turned me on to those if the price is right, go for it, but I would figure a full service may be due, unless there was a recent one. Let us know how you make out.

The end-piece is either bent wrong (too much) or it is the wrong end-piece. The correct piece would sit totally flush like it should on any Tudor or Rolex.

(Mine is not a a big block but still considerably thicker than a Daytona for example and the end-pieces are much larger to fit flush.)

I see what you you mean, but I have just looked at a few 79180s in the for sale section here and they all have that same gap between the endlink and the top of the lug.

Yes, a feature I use daily.

Have to see more pics to determine that but if all else is ok even with a service the price seems reasonable.

Correct, Adam. Rarely do you ever see Big Block end links matching the same curve as the lugs. These were the thickest Oyster cases made until the release of the DSSD.

One of my all-time favorites. Not just for style (which is tough to beat), but for the durability/reliability/accuracy of the Valjoux 7750.
Congrats!

A nod from mine.

Looks nice Adam.

The sheen on the hands on the one you're looking at appears different from that on the markers. They may simply have aged at different rates, but it would be worth asking the seller if the hands might have been changed at service.

An interesting point: The numbers on the three subdials in the OP's pic are in a slightly different font from mine and Dan's.

An observation rather than a judgment.

Just as it should on the early dials.

For $2.5k you should jump on it (assuming rest of condition is fine). I don't think
you can get hurt, especially since in the past you've said that service costs at
RSC/HK are lower than the US.

$2.5k was the price I was hoping for based on past transactions with the dealer......just got the price in: $3,850. So I guess that's over for now.

I'm not sure $3,850 is a bad price.

It looks to be a nice dial and case, and here in Japan these go for $4,000+ now. If you can knock him down to $3,500...
