Mont Blanc Ink of Love (Limited Edition) - with 3 nibs/2 Pens, and 4 writing papers
I simply 'love' this ink :) The Mont Blanc Ink of Love has been out for several years.
The expiry date is 2016, and I am confident I will finish this bottle very quickly. This ink comes in a 30ml bottle (similar to other limited editions). It comes with a nice small red tag so you can write a message on it. The ink is quite bright red when wet, then dries burgandy. It looks absolutely devine in all four of the coloured/types of paper that I have tested on. This is now my favourite ink, over the Mont Blanc Midnight Blue. I will reserve to use this ink for it's intended purpose (to write a romantic-ish message). Now that I was fortunate to obtain this ink, it would be rather difficult to get any more. Even if I do, 2016 is the cut off date. I would be suprised if Mont Blanc are still producing them. I am not suprised that other reviewers also thoroughly enjoy using this ink. Some inks simply dry a very elegant beautiful colour on many colours/shades of paper. This ink is definately one of them.

Thanks for the review...
A very nice red The notion of expiry or 'use by dates' for ink is something very new to me. Does that apply only to permanent inks? I am using Noodler's Blue/Black ink and am not aware of any expiry date applying to that.

Mont Blanc inks are organic and contain a cleaning agent.
Such inks once expired start to break down and the quality gets comprimised. I would never recommend using a $20 expired ink that could potentially ruin your expensive pen. My local store (who sell 5 brands of ink and this shop is not mont blanc) will not sell noodlers ink. They had too many customers return ruined pens that Need repair. Those inks have ingredients that cause issues. Now I have nothing against any brand, I have used mainly mont blanc and never had any issues with them. If inks dont expire then theres preservative agents in them. That cant make them superior inks. That is like implying that mcdonalds burgers that can stay intact for 6 months before decompose are superior to organic meat burgers that decompose after 2 days. Would you believe mont blanc substandard ink to ruin their own expensive pens? They have to be doing something right making inks that have the property of a cleaning agent. They can afford to make decent inks that have no issues.

Mont Blanc stopped produing this ink 2 years ago. Whatever bottles that still exist have an expiry date around 2016. Unopened bottles normally have an expiry date between 4-5 years after the original manufacturer date. And once the bottle is opened Mont Blanc recommend the ink will last 3 months.

Well like I said, the official response I received from Mont Blanc is that they definately stopped making it years ago. So grab what stock you can possibly get if you see it.

Noodler is one ink manufacturer that I absolutely steer clear of.
OTOH, I recommend J. Herbin inks 100% - lots of different colours to choose from, no use-by date and most are very easy to flush clean. I do have a bottle of ink of joy and ink of friendship somewhere. Didn't buy the ink of love as I already got a couple of bottles of J. Herbin 1671 limited edition red :-) Still got 10 bottles of MB Racing green that I don't think I'll ever finish, let's see if they turn to mush or not lol. |

I don't understand the haters on Noodlers it is a great ink that I've been using for about the last 5 years without a problem.
However I do use it on an OBBB nib and maybe that is broad enough to avoid the nib clogging. As for 'use by dates'. If you keep the lid on properly and keep the ink in a dark place (like a draw) in a cold (aircon) climate then there is minimal risk of any problems.

Thanks for sharing.
I am just saying what Mont Blanc have informed me about the use by dates that are clearly marked on their ink bottle boxes. Consider it the same as anything else that has a use by date. Completely up to you if you wish to ignore all the advice given, and use whatever it is months, years after the use by date. If it the case of ink and you wish to risk your $12 bottle of ink on your expensive pens, then by all means take that risk. No one is forcing you to use or not use the ink if it has a expiry date, they are organic inks, they do degrade. If you wish to go by that inks stay in perfect to it's original condition forever, that is your choice what to believe. And if 100's of people had their pens ruined by specific inks or using expired ink or ink that's dried up in their pen because they didn't choose to flush their pen, and you don't believe ink could possibly ruin any pen, go ahead. It's the same as saying there's no point changing oil in a car, it should be as in perfect condition many years after brand new. Do anything you like, you paid for it. I'm definately not going to pay $200-400 to repair a pen because I refused stop using expired ink or flush out near-dried ink from my pen. You guys can take that risk. Then blame the manufacturer because you misused the pen and was unable to follow the simple instructions.

Personally...I am not an expert when it comes to inks and whether they breakdown over time. And of course.....each to their own but if you have a sealed, never opened bottle of ink and store it in a cool place or location it should not turn bad by an expiration date labeled on the bottle. I will call(in the next week or so) a couple experts who collect, sell and use FP's to ask them their opinions on inks and the effects of oxidation!!!

Sorry to hear of your dilemma but now you know that fountain pens glide across the paper without applying any pressure.....you may have to take it back for servicing!!!

I am glad you got it returned improved. I just recently purchased my Mont Blanc Masterstuck Le Grand. However it is a broad nib. I am getting it changed to an oblique broad. It gives me the extra variation over the broad version.
I have to wait 5 more weeks before Mont Blanc finish making it. It has never been made for my particular 90th edition.

Mont Blanc stopped making this ink three years ago, so don't hesitate to start contacting your local pen stores to get them. My bottles purchased this month, the ink must be opened by mid 2016 (to give you some idea).
